Hide A Way Café — Restaurant in Portsmouth

Went for breakfast for first time. Served by a young girl who seemed too young to be working. She was polite, friendly and willing but had clearly not been trained properly and did not know how to do lots of things (including making hot drinks).

Our food arrived before the drinks, and this was the same for most of the tables around us despite lots of prompting. When drinks did arrive the side of the mugs were tea stained. My partner ordered a flat white, as an ex barrister, I can confidently say it was not a flat white. Just warmed milk poured on a shot of coffee.

Food was brought out separately so those at the same table were eating at different times. Nothing to complain about food wise but wasn’t it overly impressed either.

I asked for sliced bread for my sandwich but was given a roll and had waited so long for it that I didn’t correct this.

Cheap sachet sauces.

Several people complained about wait time and others given wrong items.

Some of the above understandable if it was busy and staff/kitchen were overwhelmed but only five tables were occupied and one take away.

Sorry but won’t be coming again. Really...

I popped in while doing a job around the corner. I was greeted with a warm welcome from the staff and owner and the atmosphere immediately made me feel welcome. The full English breakfast that I ordered was spot on, delicious, well prepared, and clearly made with care. I was surprised by the excellent value for money. New name (and possibly owners) for this nice little café (was Moggy’s Cafe) offering traditional cooked breakfasts, teas, coffees and more with great, friendly service. I had their big breakfast which cost £9.95 and included a drink.

It was a good size portion and filled me up for the day. Decent quality ingredients and well cooked, although personally I would have preferred the eggs done a little more as there was a bit of uncooked white on top of the yolks (next time I might ask for them...
