iQ Brocco is the best accommodation to stay in if you're looking to do well in your studies in a lovely environment.
Location is spot on. 1-2 mins away from a well-stocked Tesco express where you can simply walk out in your pyjamas to grab a late night snack (staple for any student). Chinese restaurant behind the accommodation as well (too poor to eat out but heard good reviews). 5 mins away from the critically acclaimed Diamond, where you'll spend most of your days if you're an engineering student, 10-15 mins away from city centre (depending on how fast you can walk up a hill), and 20-25 mins walk to the train station. Pretty much in the centre of most locations (depending on what you're studying) you need to get to.
Room is decently sized (similar to most of the student accommodations dotting the entire street), ample shelves and cupboards, en-suite toilets so that you don't have to bother about the little pet peeves of fellow human beings. Constant stream of hot water; can be scalding hot water too if that rocks your boat. Sparklingly clean room when you first enter and floors are not carpeted so you don't have to bother vacuuming it every other week - they do provide a vacuum cleaner at the reception btw. Good heating (1 heater at the study desk); unless you prefer to and is used to living next to the Sun or sth. Heaters are timed for a max. of 2 hours so you don't waste electricity - heating is expensive in the UK; easily press a button within reach to activate it. There is also a lift that is well serviced and has yet to break down (unlike most lifts in the country) so the building is accessible as well. Shared kitchens are equipped with the basic cleaning materials (broom, mop, bucket) and a microwave, toaster, kettles are provided at the start of tenancy - purchase your own if you spoil them. There's also a TV in the kitchen, but honestly, no one even uses it. But bring a HDMI if you're planning to host a movie night of some sort. Security has also been stepped up due to a minor episode. Every parcel has to be signed out for accountability, which might pose as a slight inconvenience for some but well within reason. Sheffield in general is very safe so unless you require 24h security (which will probably drive up the rent), this place has good security. If you're arriving after hours, there's a number to call and also, drop them an email beforehand to let them know to arrange something.
The staff at reception and maintenance are an absolute gem. Friendly, helpful, efficient, organized, and always looking out for opportunities to provide students with the best experience. They are always available for a chat which really helps to curb any loneliness you may feel from time to time. They also host a lot of parties and events across the year - christmas party, pancake day, etc. - basically any major or minor celebrations you can think of. There are always biscuits, sweets and drinks (tea, coffee +special drinks during holidays) at the reception if you need a nibble. Breakfast snacks (think smoothies, fruits, cereal bars) supplied occasionally as well. Maintenance is efficient and any request is done online, they aim to fix any issues within 24h - things were fixed within a day the two times I requested.
Great communal space too - pool table, PS4, kitchen, tables and booths to study and chill.
BUT! There are always things to improve upon: Only 1 heater in the room, no heater in the toilet (but I guess this keeps the price low) Only 1 fridge to be shared among 5 people (pros and cons - things are cleared quickly i.e. less mouldy suspicious objects in the fridge / may not have enough space to adequately stock up on food. No weekly cleaner to clean the shared kitchen (technically you're supposed to be independent but sometimes, depending on your luck, flatmates do not have the same standard of cleanliness so..) Recycling initiative could be better
TL;DR: Location: Convenient Rooms: Well-furnished, good value Reception/Staff: Pleasant, helpful, friendly, the best

EDIT: IQ Brocco decided to ignore my comment here and only replies to positive comments, and it showed they just couldn't take criticisms, or just do not care about improving at all. Pathetic
The closet can only use with hangers The heater only works for two hours As a non-smoking building, the smoking situation is out of control The post locks are literally broken for YEARS, still not fixed, you can still open the post lockers with no key required Poor reception time The reception will only keep your parcel for 48 hours, and then they will just send it back Horrible flat door lock design, the flat door lock = every other room door lock in that flat if you are in an ensuite Expensive - you can get a studio elsewhere with this price (with much safer and better services too) No cleaning tools or services provided No facilities in Block A, everyone must walk OUTSIDE the building and enter block B to do anything Bin store is absolutely disgusting People using drugs at the back of the building Security is terrible, I have been followed to enter the building by strangers multiple times The fire alarm makes us the boy who cried wolf, it just goes off randomly. We have no idea whether it is another failure or an actual fire. IT IS NOT SAFE TO STAY HERE. And there are more irritating things but I can't bother to write it down.
Conclusion: I lived here for two years, and it has ruined my university life, and I am regretting my decision on choosing this horrible accommodation. You don't need to suffer as I did, avoid...
Read moreI've had a terrible experience living here. The staff is very unorganized and will not hesitate to lie at all times in order to get the company out of trouble every time something goes wrong.
First of all when moving in I was attracted to move to IQ with a voucher of £100 which I will receive as soon as I move in. I have not received this voucher until the next calendar year after many multiple requests at reception by my friends and I, I've been lied to every time and turned away with a different apology every time until they finally gave me the money.
Secondly I had one fridge between 5 rooms, kitchen is not equipped with toaster, kettle , ironing board or an iron. My sofa in the kitchen was in an awful state , bits were coming out of it and upon every request to be changed they again lied every time I went to reception to have it changed. The state of the furniture in the kitchen did not reflect the money I paid for the accommodation.
The utility room is awful. Washing machines and dryers break all the time or they don't wash/dry your clothes properly and you lost out on a lot of money. You pay about £4 just to wash your clothes.
At the moment I am still awaiting for my £250 deposit which I have not received yet even though my contract finished in July! I have been told by a member of IQ Brocco reception that they have not got the money as they are doing repairs. Having checked the company which is securing my deposit as they say and my deposit was never registered with them! Not securing my deposit is illegal and I will try to take legal action.
I do not advise anyone...
