Klondike Gold Rush National Historical Park — Attraction in Alaska

A fantastic national park has been made out of the narrows winding klondike trail. The thick rain forest rises sharply to incredible heights on all sides. The White Pass Railway takes you on a slow & rattly ride along the sides and passed the sights of the mining era. A winter in this valley is hard to imagine. No wonder once you carried your backpack through this forest and over the top into Canada, you were going to be trapped in through the long dark winters...

We had an early start at 8.30am, the early morning horse ride through the National Park forest was very quiet and peaceful with just the sounds of the horse’s hooves but it was very cold for the first 1/2 hr. Recommend doing later in the morning but if you have no option take a warm jacket. Interesting scenery, informative commentary from our guide. Not so much for history - not much of. Dyea is left - but for natural beauty and. ecological curiosity it was good fun. However, our late September visit was too late for much wildlife viewing. For that come here earlier...
