Swimcrush Sushi + Bar + Grill — Restaurant in Asbury Park

It's not often I give a full one star across food service and atmosphere. Let me explain first why I gave the food a one star and that's because I didn't get my food. We went in and we're seated tucked away in a corner, restaurant wasn't very full so I'm not quite sure why that happened but, we wound up seeing some friends through the glass and wave to them so it was no big deal. Of course at 6:00 in the evening or 6:30 rather thumping, Melody less, garbage EDM was pumping through the restaurant at an annoying level. I'm not sure about that, you want to turn your restaurant to a dance club maybe wait until the sun goes down. So kind of started off on a shaky foot and our first visit by our waitress wasn't really encouraging. She was sweet but she should not be serving food. She had absolutely no training whatsoever which becomes evident later in the visit. My wife had her usual tall captain and Coke and I had the watermelon crush bucket. My drink was tasty and all right, maybe a little strong but I'm good with strong drinks. So is my wife, however hers was nearly on drinkable. So that's a strike for the bartender who we wouldn't really call a bartender. Took a reasonable amount of time I suppose for a packed and overflowing restaurant to get our first app, the crab fries. He only thing unreasonable was that the restaurant was not packed and overflowing at all It was maybe half full. So the timing of her app was a little slow to be blunt. However before receiving that app we also ordered another app. So we finished that one and my wife finishes her drink and I pretty much finish mine and we do manage to flag down the " waitress " to request another drink for her and to inquire about the app that never arrived. Flash forward another 20 to 30 minutes, no drink, no app and I'm watching the " waitress " wander around, bus other tables and check on other tables as well. We finally had to flag her down to get the check and to cancel the other app and drink which were never going to arrive a good solid 40 minutes after we ordered them. Again the restaurant was not crowded, they were not understaffed This is just a matter of an absentee management not paying any attention to their completely untrained servers. I really don't know if any of them are old enough to carry alcoholic drinks, but it is clear that none of them are trained to serve in a restaurant. None of them. This experience ruined a date night for me, it was a totally avoidable set of errors and mistakes. If the managers of this restaurant actually ever went here, they would notice. I'm guessing it's just some absentee property manager or investor that's never been to their own restaurant. The menu items are a mess and it's just poorly set up. Avoid this restaurant at all costs, I wouldn't go for drinks let alone apps and I certainly wouldn't go for dinner.

Lastly, the fact that the management / ownership has not responded to this review in any way tells you how little they care about their restaurant. This should be enough...

In one word "Perfect". I did not expect this at all...I almost don't want to leave this review as I don't want this place to get too popular but I have to give this place credit! It is towards the end of the boardwalk (or the beginning depending on your perspective) and it was a pleasant breezy day when I saw Swimcrush. It is a crazy cool atmosphere with Baywatch on the televisions and of course lifeguard types hosting and serving. I stopped to see the menu items listed outside on the boardwalk easel thing and I was greeted by the manager and two other host cheerfully answering my question as to what was good...I already knew I wanted a burger and fries but everything sounded so tasty and at a great price I was interested in knowing some details. The manager Elizabeth was fantastic and she knew everything about the menu and what was good. I had a Smashburger and OMG it was tasteeeeee!!! Fried pickles, great tasing burger, french fries and great service. My waitress Bailey was quick to serve and attentive to my refills. I was not outside but directly inside an open door and with the Boardwalk, the breeze, and the beach right there I felt like I was in my own beachfront property enjoying an easy day of retirement (and I am not retired) but for a brief lunch meal I was enjoying life like I was. I even met Al the chef (I think that was his name) and complimented him on his Smashburger and although he was busy handling a few things with the manager, both he and Elizabeth still noticed and acknowledged me and my compliments. I mean I admit I was being EXTRA as I was bored and wanting to have conversations with everyone and not once did I feel unwelcome or as if I was a nuisance. I was not the only patron but they were well staffed enough to treat me like a VIP. Great service for a burger and fries. Extremely satisfied, full, and impressed. Five stars all around, thank you Bailey, thank you Chef Al, and thank you to the manager Elizabeth who with a great smile delivered all that was promised on the menu/sign before I even walked through the door and actually took a seat. I will definitely be coming back...Swimcrush, trust me, this is a great place with great food and service...just like I said in one...

I came here on 7/23/23 and I had a decent time. The service we received was really nice, I don’t remember the young ladies name but she was very polite and she made sure we were pleased throughout our stay. I ordered a crush burger combo and my wife ordered the fish combo. All combos comes with a side of French fries, BUT don’t get too excited the French fries were a bit soft/soggy. The crush burger on the other hand was very delicious BUT also VERY greasy. If your someone who eats on the healthier side or watches your weight, then this is not the burger for you. My wife loves fish sandwiches, but she was NOT a big fan of this sandwich. She stated the fish wasn’t crispy at all, more like baked than fried. Despite the reviews, this is not a terrible place to eat, just depends what kind of eater you are. Would I recommend? Yes I would, the boardwalk is not that big, so you don’t have much places to go to either way but I would recommend someone else to...
