Disappointed, Disrespected, and Put at Risk After Years of Loyalty

I’ve been coming to this bar for over 6 years—my husband (10+) and I own a beach property in West Allenhurst and visit throughout the year. We’ve always supported this establishment, often purchasing bottles and choosing to sit down and enjoy the atmosphere. But tonight, after attending a wedding and arriving dressed accordingly, we were treated with shocking disrespect.

A group of patrons claimed we couldn’t sit in a section they hadn’t even paid for, and immediately targeted my husband with ageist remarks, saying they didn’t want “someone old” near them. When we didn’t move, one individual threatened to physically pick me up and remove me from my seat. I told security that my safety was being threatened, and they refused to address the person who made that threat. Instead, they chose to remove us—longtime, respectful patrons—while allowing a group of visibly intoxicated younger and trashy looking individuals to stay. That decision was not only insulting, it was dangerous.

I spoke with the head of security, who acknowledged that we’ve never caused issues and are known to staff. Yet we were still forced to leave because he “didn’t know the full story.” It was clear that credibility and loyalty meant nothing in that moment.

This experience was deeply upsetting. The lack of professionalism, the tolerance of discriminatory and threatening behavior, and the failure to protect regular patrons is unacceptable. Wedding Review: I would give Russell Lewis and Jess 10 stars+ if that was an option. It's taken me 1 month since my wedding to write a review because, well it takes awhile to come down from the cloud you feel you are on from the experience.

Background: we began this journey in 2020. Deposit, food selection, drink selection, invites sent and received, dj selected, then 9 days before the big day COVID PANDEMIC. Everything, everywhere shut down.

We rescheduled 6 months later, silly us.

Russell was the ultimate professional when we expressed we wanted to wait past a year to go through with our day.

I'm so happy we did. Here's what we experienced. The food is incredible!!! App selection and mini meal selection is expansive and off the charts! I can't tell you the amazing response from guests over the food and the flow of the night.

Bar is top shelf, drinks were fresh and delicious. Not a corner was cut and staff was enough, no lines at the bar.

Atmosphere: forget about it! You are as close to the ocean without being in the ocean, low lights, great music, outdoor space, open floor, fireplaces, comfortable seating.

Staff: Over the top. Responsive, Attentive, Courteous. We had to bring desserts in a day before and they provided refrigerator space, along with being available for needs during the wedding.

I could go on and on, but bottom line if you are considering Watermark for a wedding do it! Best night of my life and so many guests expressed it was the best wedding they have ever been...
