Visiting Atlanta, my (and my sister's) first time at the market in this location. Came here over the weekend, a little before closing at noon. It was the day after my birthday, which falls on the week of Independence Day.
As for the freedom farmers’ market — wish I could say I was impressed. Wish I could say it rocked my socks. I was wearing socks this time, even though not sure why. But that's beside the point, really.
Let me describe the location to best of my ability. There's a sufficient parking lot off to one side, and the market fans out at the other side. The trees hang low and the vegetation is a dark-green, lending itself a very good atmosphere. That was the only half-way impressive thing.
On the other hand, the passerby here are jokesters and largely callous, uncaring moving pillars of wooden flesh.
I get no sympathy anywhere, so here is no different.
Add to that, I wanted a ham&cheese croissant, and a chocolate croissant, and stood in line for a good half-hour, but they were out of that, not even a half-hour to closing time. For shame.
I visited the bagel shop and got myself a Poppy Seed (or some such Seed) Bagel & an Almond-infused Scone for a 8$ even. Pretty solid deal, at least.
Sat down at the bench and ate my pseudo-breakfast, along with my sister. It was ok I guess, decent taste and protein but not great protein. I felt myself envisioning the ham&cheese croissant. Better protein undoubtedly, but this was technically nut-protein, a bit healthier for you. Though much sugary, and that was not.
Additionally, did I find my soulmate here? Nope.
Did I expect to? Couldn't say if I wanted to.
Did I talk to anyone here or make any friends? That's a stone-cold "nope", because Georgia is an unhealthy place to live.
All in all, atmosphere is great, but the people here are the opposite of cool, and hopefully it'll be a long time before I revisit the market at this location.
More a yawn-fest than a wow-fest, but that's Georgia farmers' markets for...
Read moreMy favorite farmer's market in ATL. One of the largest. They have many produce sellers, including a few faves like Hickory Hill, Rowe x Rowe, and Riverview Farms meats and grains. Great selection of hard to find greens like frisee and radicchio. Little Tart has great baked items. El Ponce is there first weekend of the month...great tamales wrapped in banana leaves...go get you some. Jarred salsas, too. The Verde is my fave in town. Their breakfast is also good. Other snack options are there,, and some specialty vendors like Decimal Farm goat cheese, honey, and other stuff. Ga Peach Truck has summer peaches and fall apples and winter citrus from S. Ga. I'm mostly there for the produce, which is more abundant here than at other markets I always drop $40 and leave with a big ole bag. And hard to beat the beautiful location at the peaceful Carter Center. Please note: it's a true farmer's market. It's smaller in winter and they have less available produce, as less grows in winter and things sell out faster, and will also be affected by weather events like freezes or heavy rain. There's rarely any seafood, as available seafood is far away. We are inland. Come for the local and seasonal fresh produce and products, and keep small farms...
Read moreOf the Atlanta weekend farmers’ markets, this one is the most farm. People are there promptly at 8:30am vying for local fruits and vegetables, and they take their vegetables serious. While taking pictures of some adorable carrots, I could feel the glare of the gentleman next in line. He was not here for basic bish antics. He was here for adorable carrots and was going to get the best of the lot.
You’ll find a wide selection of produce not usually found in grocery stores. One vendor had all sorts of mushrooms. Another, artisanal goat cheese which probably makes you fancier when ingested.
There is a bike valet so you can get the full “I love the environment and support local” experience. If you don’t care about the environment (or live far away) parking is readily available and free.
For those looking for a less farm experience, there is coffee and pastries by well loved local shops. You can then take your iced coffee and walk the stone...
