Love this place! It's so affordable (4$ for 6 & up, FREE under 6yrs). I take my son a few times a year and pay 4$ so he can climb inside the authentic train car, trolley, and river boat. He loves pretending to drive the gold cart and I love reading about the different parts of Augusta history each time we go. I'm still finding new information 2 years later! It's very clean and well presented, with different areas for different eras. All the way from prehistoric times to modern golfing history and everything in between. The people who work there are so above and beyond helpful and friendly too. When we first moved here, the lady at the information desk told us all about Augusta suburbs, school zones, restaurants, attractions, local business, and more. She gave us a bag full of helpful pamphlets and brochures too. We take visitors to the museum all the time too- especially since it's right across the street from the Riverwalk and riverboat ride attractions.

I wasn't expecting a lot, but this place was so much fun. It was a lot bigger than I expected, with a large and varied collection. I really appreciate how interactive everything was. They made sure to tell us when we came in that you can get inside the passenger train car! There is a history theater, and exhibits spanning topics from native Americans to 21st century musicians. Black history is included here! I highly recommend it, especially if you are into golf. I enjoyed sending pics of the Masters jacket to my golf-playing family. I think the thing that impressed me most was the amount of interaction between US presidents and Augusta! My kids (ages 7-12) aren't super into history, but we spent two hours here. Admission in August is only a dollar! There are sizeable bathrooms, a water fountain, elevator to the second floor, and wonderful air conditioning. If you found this review helpful, please give it a heart! Thanks!

Not crowded, bigger than expected, and only $5! If you scan the QR code located inside, there are audio recordings for a self-guided tour. My husband and I spent 2 and 1/2 hours there and we aren’t usually big museum people. The most interesting part to me (besides the train of course) were the videos discussing Brown vs Board of Education, Paine College, and MLK. The videos were a great storytelling tool, very well done and informative! Unfortunately, only 2 people can watch at a time and you have to stand the whole time which was difficult as each video is 15 to 20 minutes long. I did not watch them all so I’m looking forward to going back. We got a kick out of the theatre which was showing a film called “The Rise of the Southern Biscuit” 😂

This last visit wasn’t to go through the museum. We went for Lego house display. They have gingerbread houses in the fall and they did the Lego. I don’t know if they always do it. This is the first I knew of it. It was very cool. On the regular mail all through it is amazing as well. There is so much to see with lots of information and history given. Even a theater with history documentary playing at times. Several train cars. An actual river boat. It has two levels. There is also a big James Brown section. He was from the area. We used to go at least once a year but haven’t been back for a while except to see the houses. Which was free.

I love to go to the annual gingerbread house display. You can bid on the gingerbread houses, and the money goes towards the museum. I’ve won several throughout the years and always am happy to drive from Aiken to pick them up. I will say that if you decide to bid on one, be prepared to rush over at the last minute. They will call you and expect you to be there that day regardless. I still enjoy having the smell of gingerbread throughout the house. I’ve only been through the actual museum once, and it did seem informative and have interesting facts about Augusta. The museum is not free, but the gingerbread house displays are free.

Truly an amazing display of objects associated with the history and growth of Augusta...the James Brown exhibit was truly a well put together tribute to an amazing performer who not only shared his talents with the world but kept his life roots strong within his own community of Augusta. I would recommend this to families trying to express the importance of equality and what we can accomplish as individuals I was a bit disappointed they didn't have much tourist merchandise such as t shirts or postcards...they only had buttons and magnets
