I love museums and saw that this museum would be celebrating its 25th anniversary of being in business. It was a big celebration with special exhibits, refreshments, and live art as well. All of this was free and that’s good news to anyone’s ears!!! I didn’t know what to expect and I was quite amazed at what I witnessed!!! I wasn’t able to see the whole museum but I saw about half of it and it was so much to take in and enjoy. Walking into one of the galleries it was very quiet and turning the corner I was actually surprised, it was someone sitting in a chair. Then we realized that she was a docent and the docent was actually dressed as the painting. She explained the painting and tidbits about the painter and precise details about the piece. We saw about 6 docents that day dressed as paintings and they were very knowledgeable about each painting they represented. I met one docent his name was Jimmy Menger, who had worked as a volunteer at the museum for many years and he died a few days after my visited. That crushed me and shows how life shouldn’t be taken for granted. I drove to Columbia to check out their art museum for my birthday one year and the Morris Museum is just as good or even better than that one. I love the fact that it is dedicated to art and artists from the South. This is a for sure stop when visiting in town or something to do...

Our visit to the museum on a quiet Sunday was an absolute delight. With only a few visitors present, the serene atmosphere allowed us to fully immerse ourselves in the beauty and creativity on display.
The Oil on Canvas collection was breathtaking, showcasing a remarkable range of talent and emotion. Each piece told its own story, and we found ourselves captivated by the intricate details and vibrant colors.
The Glass Blown exhibit was equally mesmerizing. The craftsmanship and artistry behind each piece were awe-inspiring, leaving us marveling at the skill required to create such delicate and stunning works.
To top off the experience, the gift shop was a hidden gem. It offered a variety of unique and high-quality items, perfect for bringing a piece of the museum home or finding special gifts for loved ones.
Overall, the museum provided an enriching and memorable experience that we’ll cherish. Highly recommend for anyone seeking a peaceful and...
Read moreMorris Museum of Art is a beautiful space located in downtown Augusta. Admission is free on Sundays and is only $5 for adults Tuesday through Saturday. They are closed Mondays. There are about 12 galleries with a range of art including paintings, Glassworks and sculpture. Styles range from classical through impressionism to modern. Each work provides a limited history of the artist...sometimes only the birth/death date. This is probably where I think the museum falls short. There is no explanation of the art itself, its history, meaning, style or place. There used to be a tour available on Sundays but has been paused during Covid. There is no printed or audio guide available so one is left with a feeling of loss in not being able to relate fully to the art. I still would recommend going... if nothing else then to enjoy an inviting and calm space in an otherwise calamitous world. P.S. Private tours may be available. I may update this review if I decide...
