Came here and ordered my usually cookie waffles today. Everything was great this morning until a man with a GoPro came in with a dog and was extremely and blatantly disrespectful. I’m only leaving a review because I knew he would leave one stating false claims while I was a patron at the restaurant. There is a sign on the door stating no animals allowed, however, he may have not seen it as he came in through the exit door. The Manager stated there are no dogs allowed and he stated it was a service animal. The dog then proceeded to run INTO the kitchen while they’re cooking with a leash the owner was not holding onto. The manager then asked if the dog had a service animal card due to this. He then said it’s illegal to ask & joked he would “call the cops” on them for asking. She laughed it off and served him as normal. For the remainder of his time his dog barked and howled, and he was loud and belligerent. I did get a bit worried as he was getting louder and then started randomly coughing loudly. He stated they called the police?? No police were called at all however. Someone (maybe the owner or a higher manager) showed up to de-escalate the situation as the patron was making everyone very uncomfortable & uneasy. He was not told to leave or anything. He was STILL treated very kindly(and cautiously) by everyone there. Not sure what his goal was this morning, but I’ve NEVER had an issue here other than them being too busy because the food is GREAT.
10/10 recommend as long as he does not...
Read moreI recently dined at the café on 8th and, while the food was truly exceptional, my experience was marred by a level of discrimination and unprofessionalism that is simply inexcusable. As a disabled veteran who relies on a service dog, I was subjected to blatant harassment by the individual self-identified as the “manager.” Not only did she display a shocking ignorance of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), but she also escalated the situation by calling the police on me.
In the midst of my meal, I was abruptly approached by two deputies—an intervention that was as unnecessary as it was humiliating. The deputies quickly recognized the absurdity of the situation, even laughing at the baseless claim. I was doing absolutely nothing wrong, yet I was treated as if I were a criminal solely because of my service dog.
Adding insult to injury, when I attempted to obtain the manager’s name to hold her accountable for her actions, I was outright denied that basic courtesy. Wow. Pathetic.
It is utterly disgraceful that an establishment serving quality food would employ a manager so woefully unfit for the role—someone who blatantly disregards legal obligations and basic human decency. I strongly urge the café’s ownership to immediately address this issue by providing comprehensive ADA training for all staff and reconsidering the managerial leadership.
Until these changes are made, I cannot, in good conscience, recommend this...
Read moreThis was our 1st time, literally a hole in the wall surrounded by empty store fronts but close to the successful live theater Le Chat Noir. We had the Deluxe Waffles, the Cheeseburger & Low Country + a side order of Waffle Tots. All was tasty & the concept very unique. The checker/waitress was personable & helpful. The very competent cook is visible to all & was equally personable. Just 5 - 2-Top tables are inside with about the same number outside. The restroom was clean & the background music pleasant, making the wait for our food not objectionable. We came when it was busy, so the concept of 1st come 1st served applies with the single cook. There is a sign that says this is not fast food. There is another sign that says they use locally sourced ingredients. Prices were not cheap but not overpriced. We hope for their success & perhaps they will prompt business neighbors to fill the empty...
