I've been meaning to write this review for awhile now.
Frankly, this used to be one of my favorite bars. It has an interesting disco ball on the inside next to a giant moose head. The setting is pretty chill. They have a ping pong tables and hoola hoops which makes for fun drinking times. I loved giving this place my business. Honestly, I would have continued to give them my business if it wasn't for this one bartender who was an epic d-bag (on more than one occasion). I don't know his name, but he has dark hair and works downstairs. I felt like I was living in New Jersey all over again with the rudeness. You can really feel his icy vibes and tell he hates humanity in general. For awhile, I had been coming to this bar every week because I personally thought they made the best Micheladas I've ever had. For those who are not familiar, a Michelada is literally lime juice, bloody mary juice & beer combined (at least that's all the ingredients they use at this place). Very simple drink actually.
One night, I went in and ordered my drink and the new female bartender walked over to this negative male bartender & asked him how to make the drink. He told her to tell me "We don't make Micheladas this late" and she relayed it back to me. I replied with "Yes, you do...I've been coming here for months now and I've been served many times before by many different bartenders with the same drink." I wasn't mean when I said it but I stood my ground. I could tell the really negative bartender got super annoyed because he had to teach her how to make a three ingredient drink on the spot. Seriously? Cry me a river, dude. Anyway, they made the drink.
The next week when I came in, he recognized me instantly and pulled the same line this time with a sadistic smile. "We don't make Micheladas this late" in which I replied..."Oh? Well, you've made them before on many different occasions...even later than this actually." He didn't like my reply and refused to serve me the drink. He seemed rather proud of himself too. I guess he needed a little power trip to boost his ego.
Honestly, I've never seen such a lazy, lousy bartender in my entire life. Can he even be labeled as a real bartender? What I find the most disturbing is why this establishment allows him to continue to working there when there are tons of reviews on Yelp and Google where everyone is referencing the SAME NEGATIVE BARTENDER....
A few months ago I did venture back in there on a weekday when he wasn't working and was served by a very friendly male bartender. I told this bartender about of the negative bartender who wouldn't serve us a Michelada. He thought it was absolutely absurd and started laughing at how untrue that was. He proceeded to say "We're bartenders, it's our job to make drinks and make customers happy. I'll always make you a Michelada." I felt better about that interaction, but I definitely don't make it a point to come back to Lustre Pearl anymore.
I even went as far as to google the owners of this establishment and reach out to them directly about this unprofessional negative bartender. Unfortunately, their contact form on their website was broken and I found no other way to get into...
Read moreOne of the most unfriendliest bars against dogs in Austin. - Tonight I was walking my dog and I went to Lustre Pearl. There was practically no one outside and I was just me and my dog. My dog was playing with one of their hula hoops. He regularly jumps through them. So he had the hoop in his mouth and a bartender came outside and ripped the hoop away from my dog. The bartender yelled at my dog for having the hoop in his mouth, then he sarcastically yelled at me for letting him to that. It was VERY unprofessional of the bartender of Lustre Pearl to be so unkind. 1. He obviously hates dogs. 2. He was obviously having a bad day and he thought nothing of taking it out on a regular customer 3. He didn't think before he reacted and because of that his bar is now getting this review. I spoke to other employees at Lustre about the incident and they blew it off, so this review is well deserved the matter was not taken seriously. The issue I have with this employee at Lustre Pearl is that he could have nicely approached me and asked me to ensure my dog did not touch their equipment if that was his request. He did not take this approach. Instead, he decided to sarcastically make a threat. I'm not going to this bar again and I recommend other dog owners do the same. This bar is not dog friendly. I'm surprised this employee didn't kick my dog because he certainly looked at my dog like he was going to. The guy was a white male about 5'9, wearing all black, had a clip board in hand and a rag attached to his waist. I wouldn't necessarily fire this guy if I were his boss, but I would certainly ensure employees handle situations differently. If he gets fired, it's just as well because he seemed close to harming my dog, he might actually harm other people's dog's...
Read moreWorst bar ever!!!! My husband and I drove from Dallas to Austin for the weekend. My husband loves Tommy Want Wingy, which happens to be located in front of the Lustre Pearl. When we got there, we noticed a few people stopping to talk to the guy at the front gate. So in order to not be rude, we walked around them. Well, we didn't realize they were checking IDs at the front for the people going to the bar. I didn't have my ID, so I walked back to the car to get it while my husband got in line. When I returned, the security guy started making disrespectful comments about it being bar and about me not having my ID. He also said that he could put me out if I had an attitude. Mind you, it was 90 degrees and I had walked all the way back to my car to get an ID to eat chicken wings. Well, after showing my ID, he was still making comments, so I just walked away and headed towards my husband in line. This guy proceeded to yell across the yard and sent over security to say that I needed to leave! There are no words to describe the disrespect AND embarrassment that I experienced. This guy was clearly on a power trip and apparently doesn't mind disrespecting women or losing customers....
