Clearly the most Amazing Public Library in the Country! It's like an amusement park and there's no way to capture all of it's magic in just one day. Not just a library, but an Adventure! With that being said; as a budding artist, musician, and poet; I found my nitch here on the 5th floor at the Innovation Lab. This spot in the library is chauck full of board games, high end Mac and Dell computers, a V.R. Experience, 3D Printers, and a sound Lab for recording, mastering, and producing, professional grade media content. What a gift to this beautiful Community.... Except: When you visit the Innovation Lab you are treated by unskilled and untrained employees who seem to go out of their way to stifle any sort of creativity. The real problem is the employees lack of training, skill, and ability. Instead of stepping up they make excuses or just point blank run people off. 90% of the time, the Innovation Lab is empty of human unless there is a special event at the library itself, or an outside group uses the lab space to highlite their skills and activities with Legos, art classes, or feature an Indy film. I've been visiting the lab for almost 6months now on a regular basis. In that time, I've seen no improvement with what this place has to offer, other then the outside activities that they rent the space out for. It's clear that a management change is in order. I would venture to say that "Will", the current manager has no idea how to use 3/4's of the equipment in this space and has no desire to learn. Hince, why his employees have no clue how to use the gear. The failure of this space is a tradidy to the community really. $100's of Thousands of dollars have gone into creating this space only for it all to sit there unused and/or miss-used. Some had a great idea 💡 here, with this Innovation Lab. Problem is they put the wrong people in charge. The good news is that several key people from other States and other Communities have visited this lab and they intend to go back to where they came from and start their own. Maybe one of them will get this epic concept off the ground... Unfortunately for Austin Residents the Innovation Lab on the 5th Floor of the Austin Central Library is like the Titanic. I won't go back..... Fail!!

Located in probably one of the most beautiful blocks of downtown Austin, this library is a masterpiece of engineering. It houses 6 levels with expansive windows on all sides. It has large skylights with tons of natural light. Each story contains aisles and aisles of books. There are over 300,000 books. As I took the steps up to the top level (elevators are available) I noticed that each level had some kind of event going on. There’s a “technology” area on the 5th level that has 3D printing, virtual reality headsets, and literally every device you could think of. On the 2nd level there’s an art gallery that I made sure to check out. There’s self check out on each level, which makes it a breeze to check out a book. You can book meetings, workshops, and study-groups — all of the offices on each level are equipped with videoconferencing. Computers are also provided on each level. At the entry, there’s a cafe shop to stop at and grab a bite to eat. At the top level you can sit back and read a book while looking out the window that overlooks Lady Bird Lake. It sucks that I can’t visit this library as often as I would like. I live so far from this area. I would comment on the customer service, but I never saw any staff walking around—I didn’t mind, I was busy taking in all of the beauty.

Our diamond of a city just became even more bright and shiny with our new Central Library. This six-story library is filled with natural light that pours through gigantic windows and well-placed clerestories, beaming sunshine into every floor. This makes it a joyous adventure to climb upward, experiencing every level of our library, from the ground floor amphitheater to the rooftop garden. In addition to the books, this library's many treasures include: circular windows that invite the kids to imagine they're in a submarine or a spaceship, a sunny "Reading Porch" on the third floor where families enjoy some luxurious RR&R (rest, relaxation, and reading), artful angles in the architecture that feels like we're inside of an M.C. Escher artwork, a rooftop garden vibrant with native plants and butterflies... As others have mentioned, the parking can be problematic. This week, we got stuck in a 30-minute traffic jam around the noon hour, after parking on the 2nd level. Super annoying issue with the ticket payment process! I mention it here just so you don't make the mistake of getting "stuck" with a bad final impression after your otherwise glorious library experience. :)

Hogwarts. Best public building in town. Austin has needed this. We still need a science museum... heck, more museums in general, but great addition to the city. So many positives to list: Book checkout and return system is amazing! Assuming every book has an RFID tag and you just place them on the reader all at once and you’re done. Incredible amounts of laptops, tablets, and other devices free for checkout and for unlimited/unrestricted use. Essentially an entire library dedicated just for kids, which I am not, but can certainly appreciate and admire. Outstanding seating options throughout the space. Tons of gorgeous private rooms that each have whiteboards, projectors, and hookups for technology available for free and easy to schedule. Jaw dropping outdoor patios. They’ve just done a great job of offering a LOT to the public. Price tag makes me cringe, but it all still makes me very proud and happy to have this is town. Only downside I have experienced is with printing... you can only print black and white 1-sided and you have to pay in cash. Expecting color, 2-sided, credit card options. Ha! Something that can certainly be updated in time I imagine.

I'm blown away at how modern, clean, and well organized this PUBLIC library is. An esthetic and interesting-to-look-at public library is rare to find. Things you should know: I. LOCATION In the heart of the city and within a prime lot of real estate. You can walk the Shoal Creek Trail since it runs alongside the library. The views from the rooftop study on the 6th floor reflects how great the location truly is. If you come here, you have to utilize the rooftop feature. II. SERVICE Helpful and well organized ~ like your typical library. There are vending machines on the ground level and a cafe as well. If you want water, the vending machines don't have any ~ you'll have to ask the cafe. III. QUALITY Great selection of a vast range of books. They even have an international section filled with books written in foreign languages. My boyfriend is Korean so we gravitated to this area of the library. It's a very small collection, at least for the Korean language. IV. CAPACITY Not too busy for a Saturday. I can assume it's busier on weekdays when kids are in school.
