I would not recommend this place. Lived here for a couple of years now and things just keep deteriorating. This is unfortunate as it is a “new” building. Excuse my unorganized review but I feel like it is a well measured overall look of my experience living here. Overall the staff is very unprofessional; giving out incorrect information that creates personal liabilities. With appearance if they put in a portion of the energy into the actual apartments that they do with their office it would maybe be considered decent. The hallways and stairs are gross, the stairways are untastefully painted one disgusting color and the hallways are not closed in which makes them humid and sticky. They used to offer "valet" trash pickup which prompted these kids to leave bags of trash outside their door at any given moment. Which although is partially the residents fault, it is also due to the management not enforcing their supposed guidelines. During move out days the areas near the alleyway in the apartment are plagued by trash unwanted furniture...which is typical and expected but when it’s right outside your unit door it really is a nuisance. I’ve seen pet (hopefully) waste in the hallways which really is revolting. The actual units are decent and although they have their uneven door handles and faucet fixtures here and there, but the appliances and kitchen are nice. With any new apartment building things are rushed and materials are cheap. This is shown, as other reviews have mentioned, with their ridiculously thin bedroom walls, and the "furnished" units with disgusting so called mattresses. Also with their pitiful hallways and entrance doors on all ends except for the office of course. Another factor to consider is safety here, although I have not personally experienced any mishaps, I was always concerned with the fact that anybody could go into the apartment very easily. They have minimal security with their entrances and the "security cameras" are not placed throughout the apartment. The rent I will admit is ridiculous considering how much they could improve in terms of cleanliness, and their not so ideal location. Maybe with updated hallways, stairways, security, and management the rent might be “justifiable”. Positives include the very nice pool area, if you’re into that, the services in the office, updated mail management, and the maintenance guys. They do create events over the year that include free food for the residents and lively parties in the pool area. Parking around the area is really sucky and their $$-$ charge a month for their parking garage is unjustifiable. With how much rent is amenities should be included, but everything is separate except for cable... Another negative is their spotty Wi-Fi, though I will say that they have made the effort to improve it over the years. Another thing to note is that I have experienced no less than 5 instances where the power went out and the screeching alarms went off. This seems to be common for this building, and the fact that they will go off usually during the night is very frustrating. The worse might have been at some time past 1 am. I believe these alarms can only be turned off by the fire department which means at least half an hour of blaring noise from the pits of hell. Again since this is a student apartment building cleanliness will not be a forte and that’s understandable. But with proper management and implementation of rules things could...
Read moreI lived at Axis for a year and it was the worst mistake. I would never recommend this place to anyone and I have actually advised people to look elsewhere when friends have been interested in the place. I read bad reviews before I moved in and I thought they were maybe being dramatic, but now I've been pushed to the point of writing a bad review myself which I would never do unless it was truly THAT BAD. I came in with high hopes as it was my first year living in Austin, but I was quickly disappointed from the moment I moved in. The apartment is supposed to come pre-cleaned but when I walked in it was so dirty that it was embarrassing. It looked like it hadn't been cleaned through multiple years of tenants. I couldn't believe that Axis had the audacity to give us keys to the place as it was, and I tried to record the dirtiness on my move-in evaluation as proof. My roommate and I both thought the same thing when we saw it and we spent a lot of time and money to clean it before moving our furniture in. Also, I want to add that the lobby and stuff downstairs looks nice, but that's a façade for how disgusting the hallways are. My friend that lived on the same floor as me referred to the hallways as "a war zone" and I agree. Not only is there CONSTANTLY dog feces all over, but there's trash, throw up, etc left to rot in the hallways for days and weeks on end. Needless to say, the halls smell and look horrible. One time management said they were painting the hallways, but they only painted the one area that leads to the model rooms and then painted nothing else. It's laughable how much of a scam that is. I want to mention how big of a money pit this place is. Not only is the place wayyy over-priced for being so far from campus, but all the previous reviews that say this place scams you at move-out are all right!! For example, one of the many random charges I received upon move-out was $35 for a "dirty tub". I cleaned my shower almost every 2 weeks with scrubbing bubbles as well as a good cleaning before move-out. I can't believe they could ever try to charge such an egregious amount for a tub that was dirty when I moved in! Also, if you want to sublease your apartment over the winter or summer breaks it will cost you 85% of 1 months rent! Which is over $800 for most leases. Read the fine print on your lease, or you will be completely blindsided by huge costs. To note: The pool only gets sun for like 3 hours a day because of it's placement between the huge walls. The gym is so small that it's awkward if 2 people are in it at the same time. It's too far from campus and the bus schedules are unreliable at best. The halls are gross. The rooms are gross. I could go on and on about this place, but I hope I gave you guys enough of a picture to steer clear of this place.
Edit: I did put all of these complaints on the monthly surveys, which I assumed was the appropriate place to offer suggestions and complaints but I guess those...
Read moreThe place was very appealing to the eye and had a great office, study room, and pool/grill area. My daughter lived there for two years and didn't have too many problems just the typical loud music and trash problem that happen everywhere in west campus. Her problems with noise were a little heightened because she lived on the ground floor with a window facing the pool area, where there are residents constantly having parties at night, she understood so she didn't complain too much about it. Also she claimed the security wasn't great because at least once a month the doors with a code would be broken, which is not acceptable because of all the theft that occurs in West Campus. The change in the internet wifi made it impossible for her to do er school work so that I was paying for her to basically live on campus and her boyfriends house. The main problem was when she moved out. We made sure we had cleaned the apartment thoroughly and the only thing we forgot was a plunger which was wrapped in a trash bag. She had a long list of cleaning fees that reached over 400 dollars along with each of her roommates. They each had charges for the microwave, the stove, the counter tops and much more. If we didn't clean it to their liking (which I don't accept because we had four moms cleaning the apartment) I understand, but why would each of the residents be charged. I took pictures of my daughters empty and clean room and restroom and they claimed that we left everything dirty. When I sent them the pictures they told me they could take off one single fee for the toilet and our balance was still over four hundred dollars. It was unacceptable how much they tried to suck money out of these kids and I believe they don't do deposits for that reason because they do not plan to get anything back. She got charged for holes in her walls (over 100 different small charges) because she put up posters and pictures around her room. The only thing I would accept was the carpet change because she had lived there two years and it was dirty. Overall it was a basic living experience there that you would have in West campus, but the parties and community events they held don't make up for the ridiculous charges at the end of the lease that many of the newly graduated students have to pay. The service from the people at the front desk isn't bad but they are all students who 90% of the time can't answer our questions so you have to talk to a manager and they are...
