Went site seeing and The Baltimore Basilica was a great place I found to walk around in and look over! It's big, can definitely support a large congregation and is not only clean and easy to move around in, but very pleasantly atmospheric and pretty all around! There are multiple levels to, woth the underground having an interesting old crypt like feel to it that is just very neat, while the top most section is ornate and a cool mix of old and modern architecture! I wish I could comment on people working there BUT, I don't think any of the holy 0eople or guides were there so I cannot comment on either! My only gripe with anything is they DID have some construction going on which made it impossible to get through the front door, but aside from that? You can't really go wrong with a free to visit awesome place like the Baltimore Basilica and I highly recommend it for people wanting a nice walk through in one of the US' oldest well kept religious buildings!
Pictures and videos are of the outside and inside of the building and its multiple levels of...
Read moreThis place is probably the most beautiful, historic and meaningful place in Baltimore city. Is located in the heart of the city, in the Mount Vernon neighborhood. It is America's First Cathedral and that makes it such an historical place. This church is 200 years old. There are tour guides that give free tours of the Basilica and explain the whole thing. Besides the building itself there is beautiful Catholic liturgy and wonderful music. The 10.45 Mass on Sundays has a fantastic choir. The organ is still the original. The undercroft chapel downstairs is very old and beautiful too. There is a crypt with several bishops and cardinals burried there. The gift shop is also great, with very a nice offer of products. There is wheelchair accessible entrances and an elevator inside to help mobility. Sometimes there are very interesting speaker series and other events - they announce everything in the website and...
Read moreThe Basilica is beautiful. There's after a crypt under the church that u can take a tour of either with a tour group or alone (my preference). The bathrooms are sort of underground, as well and near the crypt...advice, there's a bust of Pope Pious that sort of comes out of nowhere when on ur way to the bathroom, try not to scream like I did lol, it's startling, but tho scream was a little bit worse, clergy came running to check on me. I like to go in during the week and light a candle. The mass is a little bit touristy which I didn't like (Christmas eve midnight mass is different and gorgeous) so I personally prefer a catholic church that is not a tourist attraction in terms of mass, but I definitely recommend the crypt tour and checking it out...
