I went in today to get my screen fixed on my Iphone7, because I had cracked it and needed it replace. I was greeted and taken care of well by Chris. I told Chris to give me a call on my office phone or shoot me an email when it was finished. I never recieved and email or a call. I went back in three hours later and Chris told me my proximity sensor the sensor that makes the phone shut off when you hold it up to your ear) was not working, and it would need to be replaced. I was told it was going to be another 30 minutes, which did't make sense to me when he could have reached out via the other number or email to let me know the progress of the phone. I said ok. I came back 3 minutes later and he told me it was a deeper issue within the board and it would be very expensive to fix and that he would have to ship it out. I told him to just put my cracked screen back on. as he was putting my screen back on, he tested my proximity sensor, and it worked fine, which to me says that his part he was putting in my phone was defective. I was still charged for a diagnostic fee, on something THEY WERE UNABLE TO FIX. I asked why I was being charged for this and was given the answer "we had to look at it and take it apart. I can understand that, but if you went in, didn't diagnose the problem, couldn't fix the problem, why would you charge a customer? If they would like to reach out to me, they have my contact information.
PS. notice how you cant leave a review on their Facebook business page, and that they only put 5star reviews on their website.....I wonder why that is.
UPDATE: By Companies response to my review....clarifying with me that you only had my cell on file, when I gave you my office line as well as my direct email that your own system sent me a receipt to. I asked you to follow up with me and you did not. You told my MY part wasn't working, you told me YOU were going to put a new senor in for me, which didn't work, and instead of trying a NEW part, which anyone with any amount of common sense would do, you tell me there is something very wrong with my phone and said it will be very expensive to fix and you would have to send it out....and then you charged me for something that you couldn't fix, like it was my fault. It's called customer service 101. The irony of it all is you have a sign that sits right under where you stand that has the three stooges on it with a phrase that says along the lines "if we cant figure it out, the customer doesn't have to pay.....a joke, like you handle people that want to do business with your company. take your $29 you ripped off of me and go buy yourself a book on...
Read moreTypical bad reputation phone repair company. Went in to get my iPhone 12 mini screen repaired. I explained to the repair guy that I dropped the phone in water and the screen started bugging out so I shut it off and dried it out. I made it very clear that I was only interested in paying for the screen to be replaced because that alone was $270 and the phone only cost me $400 new. The repair guy understood this and he agreed that if the issues required anything more than a screen replacement he would get in touch with me and tell me the price and get my approval before doing any more work to the phone. A few days later I had to call them to get an update, my phone was fixed and I can come it to get it (no mention of price). My wife went to pick it up and they tried to charge her $380 for the repair!!! Luckily she called me and I proceeded to have to argue with the repair guy about the fact that I never approved any of the “extra work” needed on the phone and we had agreed to only do the $270 screen repair. I refused to pay that price and let him know he could either give me the price I was quoted or return the phone with the original screen. Eventually he caved and returned the phone for the quoted price… then I got it back and it has a very annoying and constant “this iPhone screen can not be verified” message and they scratched the edge of my phone down to bare metal during the whole process…. Waste of money. By the way…. BEST BUY quoted me $260 for the same repair but with a genuine apple screen that does not void your warranty. Avoid this place at all costs!
Edit: I just saw the response from the team at Maine Geeks. I would first like to say that their response is a blatant lie. I was not contacted about a price change, and again the only reason I was upset about the cost is because it was beyond the agreed upon budget. Also, once I arrived at the store the technician told me that he had never worked on the iPhone mini and really did not know what he was doing! What the heck!!! Lastly, the grand finale to the entire story… the screen they installed was CHEAP knock off screen that literally fell off of the phone 2 months later. I would rate 0 stars if possible....

I’ll admit, I was impatient and should have waited an extra day to go to a different shop—especially after reading the negative reviews about Computer Geeks in Bangor. Unfortunately, my experience only confirmed what others had warned about.
When I first called, they told me they could do the job that same day, but no price was discussed. When I arrived, the employee behind the counter suddenly quoted me $240 to swap my PSU and do some cable management. Caught off guard, I asked if there was anything we could do about the price, to which he responded, “I had to try, I can do $180 before my boss gets mad.” That should have been my first red flag. While I appreciated that they got the job done within the agreed-upon hour, things only got worse when I returned to pick up my PC.
The same employee then tried to convince me to leave my old PSU behind, claiming that since he had “cut me a deal,” he should be able to keep it. I made it clear that wasn’t part of the agreement and that I planned to sell it. He then told me it wasn’t worth much anyway, saying I’d be lucky to get $10-$15 for it. While I respected his hustle and even decided to leave the PSU as a gesture of goodwill, I later found out that I had been grossly overcharged for the service.
To make matters worse, the cable management that was supposedly his “expertise” ended up being nothing more than three Velcro cable ties wrapped around my entire wiring harness. No cable sleeves, no real organization—everything was exactly as it had been, just bundled together with three ties.
After speaking with multiple other computer shops, I was told that $180 was outrageously high—especially considering that I provided both the PSU and cable management equipment and the job only took one hour. I’m new to computers, so at the time, I didn’t know better. But now, I realize this shop was far from transparent and tried to take advantage of my inexperience.
Because of their shady pricing practices and lack of honesty, I won’t be returning to Computer Geeks in Bangor and can’t recommend...
