We love to visit farmers markets in cities we visit, this was our first visit to the Red Stick farmers market. Although it's a little small compared to other cities this size, it has plenty of vendors, with lots of good stuff. We had to search for parking, as most are posted "No free parking". We paid $5 a few blocks away. A vendor later told us That the parking in the adjacent parking garage is free on Saturday. We got there around 10 am and the blueberry vendor had already sold out, but we found another. There are plenty of vendors that sell locally grown produce, plants, and homemade goods. Even though we were visiting from out of town, we still bought quite a bit, including plants to take home. One of the items that we found was a locally made barbecue sauce called "Baconation" professionally packaged and even includes sweet tea in its ingredients we bought three jars. This is a fun farmers market to visit and we...
Read moreThe downtown farmer's market is small, but has a good variety of local vendors. The prices tend to be high except for bulk items (such as gallon jugs of honey or 50lb rice bags, which are only occasionally on offer). There appears to be no way to know which vendors will be attending, a major downside. We have our favorite vendors and would like to know which weekends they come so we can be sure to get out to the market. Some seasonal favorites are the fresh local strawberries in spring (although strawberry varieties in the US are hard and white compared to the much better quality in Europe) and pecans in the fall. The monthly arts market features many excellent craftspeople, and the weekly holiday market in December is great for presents. One vendor not to be missed is Mario with City Gelato, the best gelato and hot...
Read moreMe and my family love this market. We’re farmers ourselves and love buying from other small businesses, but this morning is the first time I had a bad experience there. We waited in line behind other people to buy peppers and never got waited on. The vendors looked over us, a black family, continuously, while serving the white customers behind us. Finally, when we asked what was wrong, the vendor rudely said the line formed somewhere else. They acted like we skipped their line, but there was NO line behind us when we arrived. I don’t know their farm name, but I’ll never attempt to buy from them again. Enjoy your...
