Black Mountain Park. We stopped here with some friends to celebrate my wife's birthday with cake. The problem that we came across was that the very limited amount of tables near the playground was actually only one. My friend noticed that there was a jacket and a purse sitting on it. And a lady with kids. He asked if it was hers. She said it was. She very nicely allowed us to use the table and moved her belongings to the play area she was in. That was a great thing for her to do. Thank-you. But then as we went to sit on the seats of this one and only table. It wobbled and acted as if it would fall over. But we all managed to sit and sing Happy Birthday have cake and no issues. However, I sure would think that the park would make repairs otherwise there could be injury to someone and problems it they don't tend to those repairs. The other problem was people smoking and there were very well posted signage that said NO SMOKING. To bad that policy was not enforced either. On the bright side we did enjoy the short_stop and just in time to watch the radio controlled sailboats. I only give two stars because of the problems mentioned above. Oh one more thing, we just happened to get the only two parking spots left. Count on a small parking lot if...
Read moreNew to the area, I had the personal pleasure of visiting Lake Tomahawk Park for the first time this past week. The park, located in Black Mountain, is a place to quiet your mind while enjoying the Appalachian foothills and Mount Mitchell. The walking path around a small lake is only a little over ½ mile along a flat dirt trail with no elevation. A short stroll will not give you much variety in terms of walking topography. Walking around the lake will quiet your mind from the typical stresses of everyday life. If you are an avid birdwatcher like myself, you may get the opportunity to gaze at visiting ducks, mallards, robins, blue jays, doves, and many other bird species. The facility has a community pool, clubhouse, restrooms, and a couple of newly resurfaced tennis courts. For those looking for other local activities, the park is adjacent to Black Mountain Golf Club, where you can enjoy a quality round of golf. The best part of your visit here remains the beauty of the lake itself.
I would encourage you to come and visit here if you are in the local area. Like myself, I think you will come away feeling less stressed and...

Getting to the park is very easy and a simple google search will take you there. Plenty of parking as it is shared with a community center and a local pool as well.
A good park for anyone of any age. A simple walking path rounds the lake and is mostly dirt. There is a play area with swings, etc. for children to run around and let out some energy. The lake is clean and well taken care of. Wildlife is also in abundance surrounding the lake as you can see ducks and geese on a regular basis. The views of the hilltops around Black Mtn can be seen from any side of the lake as you are walking around it.
Overall it is a nice place to go for a walk, jog, run, or to let your kids loose on the playground. Would recommend this to any one visiting the area for a day trip or...
