We were heading home after being in Asheville. On the way home, we needed to have lunch somewhere. I suggested to my daughter to find a place in Black Mountain. She researched and found Open Oven Brunch and Bakery. She told me some items in their menu, they sounded good and we set our GPS to go there. We actually got a parking spot right by them!!! Parking can be tricky! We walked to the front of the restaurant to the check in spot. Ben greeted us and said it would be a 20 minute wait, which we were fine with. I gave him my number and we walked around the area to check out some local businesses. About 15 minutes later we got a notification that our table was ready. We checked in again and we were given our table number and to go inside and order what we wanted to eat. My daughter ordered the House Waffle plain and the vegan mushroom breakfast patty. I ordered a side of biscuits and gravy with a lavender lemonade. We didn't have to wait that long to get out meals. My daughter enjoyed her meal. My biscuit and gravy was ABSOLUTELY DELICIOUS!!! The only problem I had with my meal was that I only ordered one. Next time I'm definitely getting two biscuits and gravy!!! Homemade biscuit and real sausage gravy! Next time I may even get some biscuits and gravy to go! I even tried there Sweet Heat Hot Sauce. That was even delicious that I bought a bottle of it!!! The lavender lemonade was really good as well! While we were waiting for our food and when they cleared out table, we got to chat with Ben and Steve. They are very down to earth. They enjoy working there and chatting with the customers. Shout out to Ben, Jamie, Drew, Steve and the other staff, I apologize that I didn't get your names, for being amazing, caring and treating your customers like family! That means alot! I highly recommend that if you are visiting Black Mountain, definitely stop here!!! The food, atmosphere and staff are AWESOME!!! I wish I could give you more stars!! You definitely deserve it!!! Looking forward for another road trip to Open Oven Brunch and Bakery!!!

***Update*** had brunch with our friends from out of town. The staff was very friendly and took safety precautions with hand sanitizer available for guests and all wait staff wore masks. Our table had a mix of everything from the superb shrimp & grits, to the morning melt, pesto omelette, and even a side of biscuits & gravy. We also partook in mimosas just to top it all off. Let’s be honest in our current day and age with everything going on it’s nice to have the option for an adult beverage to take the edge off now and again. To continue we sat outside on the patio which was dog friendly and very kid friendly as well (with tables placed further apart for safety.) They also had a bunch of different types of baked goods which all look delectable but we didn’t have a chance to nab any this time. In general the place was clean the food was delicious and it came out fast. There was plenty of variety for everyone to choose. Much happier this go around compared to Octobers. Bravo guys well done!!

First time trying here; but after doing so, I see why my sister raves about it! I got the Black Mountain Bennie with pimento cheese grits, an apple butter Macaron, coffee and then later got their Rosemary Lemonade & their Strawberry Honey Scone. The flavors of the Eggs Benedict were fantastic. The pimento cheese grits gave me literal chills, they were SO good. The Macaron was just the perfect amount of fruity French inspired post meal sweetness & went great with the Dynamite Coffee they served. The Rosemary Lemonade tasted like a summer day in Italy. And the Strawberry Honey scone's texture was good; but not as sweet as I thought it would be - leaned more towards a Biscuit with strawberries in it. Butter, clotted cream or a lemon glaze would've been good with it. Overall, a fantastic meal & great atmosphere! Dangerously close to my house & I'll definitely be back!!

Edit: After viewing other poor reviews and seeing that the owner responds poorly to anyone who leaves a bad review, Im not going to take it personally, lol. I feel like I left a pretty good review considering everything. And I left 3 stars, not 2. If you want a 2 star review I could leave that instead. I never insisted you kick people out of their seats, so dont act like we did. And it wasnt vegan we needed, it was a nut allergy that you did not ask about. Maybe instead of reacting to everything immediately you could think about it first. And it helps to clear up tables to not continue sitting more and more people becausr theyre 2 or 3 ppl parties. Giving us deserts and saying sorry doesnt invalidate everything that i said. We didnt even eat all the dessert, we left it at the table when we left. Original review; Quoted 30 minutes to sit, waited an hour because they "only have two 6 seaters and the table still hasnt left," but they sat us at two tables pushed together. You couldn't have done that half an hour ago? They kept sitting more and more people before us, walk-ins, and reservations. We also gave them our phone number to let us know when our table was ready, and it was completely wrong. Once you're sitting down, you have to get back up and wait in another line to order food. The same person taking orders is apparently answering phone calls and directing kitchen staff because she kept just stopping in the middle and ignoring us to do both those things. The owner comped us some decently okay desserts, which was nice but never asked about food allergies, so half the people at the table couldn't eat them. By the time we got our breakfast, it was 12:15, thats lunch time at this point. If they hadn't kept quoting us such short times for waiting when we asked for updates, we...

This is my dad’s favorite spot so we came here for brunch today.

They forgot eggs on avocado toast so originally the server said that they were coming and then said the eggs weren’t on the ticket.

So she brought over the cc payment payment machine and I bought the eggs and it took 30 minutes (seriously) for the two over easy eggs to arrive… this is after us asking twice. She originally said that would take 2-4 minutes.

Additionally, we tried to order two mimosas at 9:53. The manager later told me that they aren’t allowed to charge for alcohol until 10am… that’s fine but that’s not what the person who took the order said. She said to come back after 10 minutes (and wait in the line again) because she will probably forget…. Ok… 🤷🏻‍♀️

Finally, I order the same thing every time - a sunny day with two eggs and a side of arugula. Today it came on a small rectangular plate. I commented that the plate was different… and the server mentioned they’re doing these small rectangular plates now. She assured me it was the same portion but it was literally 7 pieces of arugula whereas usually it’s a heaping side.

Later I noticed someone upstairs ordered the same thing and it came on the regular circle plate I’m used to. The manager said different plates are served upstairs and downstairs, but I clarified that they were both upstairs.

A lot of fuss for a $140 breakfast. I like this place but would not recommend on the weekend… and also the new staff upstairs (I didn’t recognize any of them three) were not the most communicative or attentive.

When I spoke to the manager, he was defensive and making excuses… I realized he must have been have a tough day so I just decided to move on.

A shame… we used to...
