I signed up for a three hour class at the Black Mountain location. I had absolutely no experience with glass, so I had no idea what to expect. I certainly didn’t expect to come out with four pieces! My instructor, John, was very clear in his instructions and was an excellent teacher. He struck a perfect balance between helping and letting me have a real, hands-on experience. I had a blast. I would suggest signing up for a morning class if possible, and if during the summer. It’s a very hot experience, but we went in and out of the air conditioning between projects to cool off. Honestly though, I was having so much fun, I hardly noticed. I HIGHLY recommend The Glass Center in Black Mountain for classes. They also have gorgeous work for sale in their shop. Before I took the class, I thought the things in there were very pricey, but now that I’ve had an experience with glass blowing, I see just how much work goes into everything.

This is their new second location and it's so modern and well-designed. There's a lovely glass shop in the front and a large hot shop in the back where the classes take place. We each ended up signing up for 1-1 30 min glass blowing classes with Colin and we had a blast! Colin was super knowledgeable and made us feel at ease blowing glass for the first time. We could choose between making a pumpkin, paperweight, ornament, or tumbler. It's a quick beginner class so Colin did most of the work, but you do get to learn and try some of the techniques. We had so much fun! I will definitely be taking more classes! Highly recommend!

This is the newest location (original in Asheville). The building is gorgeous! We had a 30-minute hotshop class scheduled with Dahlia. She was amazing! Super helpful, extremely knowledgeable, and immediately put us at ease. She talked us through the entire process and explained each step in detail. We can't wait to go back and take another class. If you're in or around Black Mountain, check them out. They have a beautiful display area when you first walk in and the staff members are so welcoming.

The North Carolina Glass Center has opened a second location. This one is in Black Mountain. It was near where I stopped for brunch so I had to check it out as I love glasswork.

The Glass Center is inviting, and you will be greeted when you arrive. I was able to browse the artwork and watch a piece being made. I learned about the NC Glass Center's mission of a shared glass studio where all glass artists can access it by renting time.

The Glass Center offers classes, too, so everyone can try creating with glass. The gallery is open if you'd rather have a ready-made piece of art.

I plan on returning for a class once I decide...
