Went to eat here with my wife , this was our first and last time. I had finished my food but my wife was still eating hers, and I wanted to have a nice little cup of Cuban coffee to finish off our meal . We were seated well before 3 pm (closing time) I had asked the owner if I could have a cup off coffee since I had seen they were cleaning the coffee machine , I asked politely if I could. She responded with “ no we close at 3 and we are closed don’t you see the sign on the door” I replied with “I understand you are tired I have worked in the restaurant industry my entire life , I am just suggesting to offer your customers that are still here finishing their food some coffee before you start cleaning the coffee machine .” Long story short , she argued and continued to say “ we close at 3 check on google and the door our hours say at 3, why didn’t you order your coffee when you order your food?” . I have never written a bad review , my whole life . But this was just very un called for and was a very bad experience of terrible customer service . To my knowledge being a fine dining server and a restaurant owner for manny years, customers that are in the restaurant still eating before closing time have the right to ask for coffee or dessert after their dinner . Even after closing time , not to mention the bread wasn’t even Cuban bread as stated in the menu . So if you want coffee from here make sure to order your coffee when you order your...
Read moreI love the food and Cuban coffees here and would come here regularly. I have a trained Service Dog for my multiple disabilities that keep me in my house and bed ridden often. Today for the first time ever, I was denied access here with my Service Dog AFTER I had my order taken, paid, and then sat down. I’ve brought my trained service dog to Cousins over 5+ times and have never had access issues or any complaints. As someone with multiple disabilities I feel unwelcome in many places and today was no exception. It is illegal to deny access to a trained Service Dog in the state of NC. I’m advocating for those with disabilities when I say this. I love Cousins but this is an issue of accessibility for the disabled. Edited to add: My Service Dog was fully vested with a red vest reading “Service Dog” “STOP no touch, no talk, no eye contact” as well as a red leash that reads “SERVICE DOG” 5x printed on it. Service Animals are legally allowed to work unvested & unlabeled in NC, but because of the amount of access issues we already face, I never work him in public without his gear on. I don’t even try to go into business that I suspect may give me and my SD a hard time so it was difficult to be turned away from a business we had been to so many times together before. I...
Read moreThis restaurant is in downtown Black Mountain. There is street parking on Broadway street really hard to find a parking space on the weekends.
They closed at 3pm and we got there at 2 pm.
The ambiance is very loud and small. You have to order at the counter and there is a huge line in the middle of the Resturant and really close to the inside seating very claustrophobic. We ordered 2 palmeritas, vegan lechón asado bowl made out of jackfruit, and vegan ropa vieja bowl jackfruit. Our drinks were jupina and iron beer typical Hispanic drinks. The palmeritas were $1.25 each from a bag and an inch size not worth it! Too expensive for the food quality they serve. Also, the vegan lechón asado was extremely vinegary as if it had too much mojo on the other hand the roja vieja had a great taste to it. The black beans are Goya can beans. The white rice was hard not fully cooked. My husband told the owner and she didn’t even try to make it right. She stated that she was Cuban and my husband told her we lived in Miami for over 35 years. I’m addition, he’s puertorican and in any culture you have to cook rice throughly. So we are never coming back to...
