Perfect example of a neglected resource in Boston, an absolute shame given the amount of tax revenue that Southie has generated for the city. VERY big, it's great potential is limitless yet lost due to years of neglect/inaction, of some simple, some more costly but needed, improvements. The park includes baseball and softball diamonds galore, used for t-ball, little league AND Babe Ruth baseball, as well as High School and other baseball AND softball leagues. The condition of these fields however are atrocious, and lack the basics that most cities and towns take for granted. The basketball and tennis courts aren't bad but again lack the most basic amenities like bathrooms and water fountains, that can literally save or ruin an experience. A major, pretty much a complete, overhaul of the park WOULD be costly but with the unprecedented jump in tax property revenue directly from the community surrounding the park, also NOT unrealistic. Boston is making many improvements all the time, how about THIS one next? The potential for a beautiful, modern sports and recreation area IS right here waiting for the right people to put it together.
