Record Stores are notorious for indiffrent/inexprienced/un-concerned staff...blame the one who does the hiring...a reflection of that person perhaps? Anyhey....best best is to locate a 'true' audio facility that knows....yes those are almost on the non-existent side.....if one has a Technics 1200 series with the screwable mount, plenty of stylus/needles will work...I use Ortofon. Most likely, many of you all have other turnatables...would suggest Jerry Raskins Needle Doctor (online) who do have a wide variety of stylus/needles....good customer service who will help you fit your turntable (and they do have a physical store too! Grand Rapids Michigan I believe)
As for trading in records....Great Escape is notorious for 'lowballing offers'/'bad service for evaluations of the vinyl'....try either Grimey's or Phonolux in Nashville......not the 'best service' at times either...but somewhat better offers.
As for the record selection at G.E.,quite good depending on one's musical taste(s) Best bet is to just browse and get your music and dont 'bother' the one's on that day....injoy the experience and check out...
Read moreA fantastic store with a fluid, but limited, selection of products. Staff are always friendly and ready to have a conversation about your hobbies! This review is written from the perspective of a retro video game collector.
Inventory: 3/5 Not many games at any given time, but they are constantly bringing in new stock and rotating product. It's worth it to visit once or twice a week.
Value: 5/5 They base their prices on current market value and always try to beat the trend by at least a few cents. In addition, Manager's Specials and 20% off storewide sales are common.
Location: 4/5 Plenty of parking. Bathrooms are under lock and key and leave something to be desired. Organization is there, but not perfect. Games are often separated and stocked in 2 or 3 different sections of the store.
Overall: I'm giving a 5/5 due to friendly staff, great value, and constantly rotating stock. The records are clearly a primary focus, but The Great Escape is still worth visiting for...
Read moreStaff is a bit rude. Once I was in a hurry and instead of checking my things out they talked amongst themselves for almost ten minutes while I stood at the counter. They have lots of good deals on the stuff on the shelves, but I'd stay away from the display case. They could at least do some research on their games before they price gouge. I'm not a cheapo, I just do research online before I drop money. Another problem I had is when me and a friend purchased a Sega Genesis model 1. The controller ports were messed up and we couldn't play anything. They should really test out their consoles before they put them out to be sold. And beware of you do decide to buy from the case. I managed to find a good deal on a PS1 game, and it was the only game in my collection to give me the red screen of death. BOTH discs. Very...
