Ok, I'm writing this review so that tells you right off the bat that I escaped, and am not currently roaming the halls of Cryptex futilely trying to leave. There really is a way out. I think that's a key point to make--escape rooms that leave you trapped and in an abandoned room for life don't get many repeat customers. However I will be a repeat customer to Cryptex--it's not perfect, but I think it is a great value & great fun. First off the location--it's in an easy to get to location, but it's also an easy to miss location. Go behind the Good Ole' Boy outpost on the strip, look for the yellow abandoned office building next to the sushi place and go upstairs. There you'll find it. So going in you kind of wonder what you're going into. However, step inside it is clean, decorated, and well kept. And you meet the staff who introduce you to the game--and this is where they shine. I interacted with two staff members on my visit (before, during & after) and both of them were helpful to newbies like us, and gave us a heads up about any sticking points or things outside the puzzle that have tripped people up in the past. Once we got our instructions & got in the room, we had a lot of fun. I won't spoil it except to say that Space Travel AI is probably a good beginner's room--we solved it, but it took nearly all the time. It was also doable by 2 people--although just barely. 3 puzzle solvers would probably be ideal. The puzzles were tough, but none impossible and with very few exceptions I always felt that my way of thinking was the problem when I couldn't figure something out--not the design of the room. Overall the room decor was adequate--this is not one of those million dollar bells & whistles escape rooms you've seen on Youtube. However they clearly tried to set up a good, atmospheric puzzle with a consistent theme and at least a little logic to what was going on. You won't forget you're standing on Earth, behind a shop that sells "Git R Done" tshirts but it doesn't matter because you're too engrossed in the puzzles to worry about the fact that you're not really weightless in space. Overall, I'd highly recommend this place, and I'd highly recommend the space theme for people just...
Read moreThis place is FANTASTIC! My fiance and I played their Pursuit of Steam room for our 158th escape room and absolutely loved it! The puzzles were well thought out and the room was well maintained and had great attention to detail. I would highly recommend trying out Cryptex for some out of the ordinary fun. All of the props and rooms seemed to be made by hand by the talented owners and you can feel the the love and care this company has for making a unique and fun experience for each player. Cryptex also has a very unique aspect that I have not seen done as well as this establishment. It is very family friendly and designed to be fun for all ages! The owner, Roman, had a great sense of humor and was a big hit with kids. He made the story fun and gave them encouragement to keep going and to try and solve the puzzles using their wits. If you have a family, this is defiantly a place you want to try! Our only regret was that we did not get to meet his extremely talented wife. She did the design work of the entire place from props to the waiting area decor. She is obviously very creative and paired with her husband it made for two puzzle pieces that perfectly complemented each other. I wish I could give...
Read moreCame to Branson for a short vacation. Decided at the last minute to try Cryptex escape room. We have done several escape rooms, so we decided to try their 90 minute Crypt room. When we arrived, we were greeted by Michael (we believe that was his name) and the owner. Both were friendly, and Michael walked us through the rules, how to use the walkie talkie, and requested a cat drawing on the white board (which we promptly made for him). The owner took us to the room, and explained some more of the specifics of the room. Both were very helpful. The room was very good, but not one that I would recommend for beginners. There was one puzzle that was very difficult and could become frustrating (took us about 10-15 minutes to complete). We were offered a solution by Michael, but we wouldn’t have been eligible to try and beat the record so we passed. We competed the room within the 90 minutes, but didn’t beat the record. We thought the room was well laid out, and had a nice mix of puzzles. We would have done another room, but we were leaving the next day before...
