I will be meeting with our front of house team to discuss your experience at the Box Office, this is not how we want our guest experience to be and can easily be corrected. I am not sure who addressed you standing in the back with your toddler, perhaps an usher. They are positioned at the back and front of the theatre and part of their job is to watch the crowd. They are tasked with watching for medical emergencies, guests' safety, etc and that is the main objective of them needing to be able to see. Read moreThis was our third visit to Grand Country Resort. Our first was about 6 years ago and another three years ago. This resort has really gone down hill and judging by the reviews I’m reading now , I never should have booked this trip. Start with the rooms. We have 6 kids so we had to book two rooms which is fair. They did accommodate our request to have conjoining rooms. Rooms are basic and I’d have to agree with many of the negative reviews that they are not clean. Myself and two of our children did experience bites that we did not have when we arrived. Also, I’ve read concerns of bedbugs just a week ago so that is alarming and we are hoping to not be taking any of those home with us. Nothing special about the rooms. In whole we found the entire resort to be pretty unclean. We went to the Pets and Giggles show on our second day. Definitely geared towards very young children but I would argue not completely appropriate. Lots of potty humor that really wasn’t very funny. The few Pets portions of the show were very entertaining but a two hour show as almost agonizing. The lunch buffet was pretty good and for us with 6 kids ran about $120.00. The buffet staff were very pleasant. The first day and a half were a pretty good time until we returned to the waterpark the evening of the second day. Here lies the reason for the one star review. I’m not the first to leave a negative review based on the water park. Sounds like it won’t be the last. A few of the staff were kind but all in all there was a sense from lifeguards and even the managers that they didn’t want to be there or bothered. We started on the front of the park which is the original part. Kids enjoyed a few waterslides and the lazy river. Then we walked over to the new section. This is quite a walk down a series of switch back style concrete ramps which you need to watch your step on. They get slick. My wife went ahead with our boys and I walked with our two daughters. One is tall enough and had the appropriate wrist band to be left alone and the other had to have an adult within 48” of them at all times. This is not an easy thing to do in a wave pool but we tried. The older daughter stayed in the wave pool and I went to take the younger daughter on a slide. As I stood on the stairs to go up to the slides I was approached by a man in a blue shirt that at least let me know he was staff. He didn’t identify himself and just walked up and asked “what’s going on?” The confusion on my face didn’t stop him from asking again. I had no ideas as to who he was or why he was asking such a question. After trying to explain I had no idea what he was talking about he claimed his lifeguards said I was being rude to them. I told him I hadn’t even talked to a lifeguard. This made no difference. The situation escalated until I was asked to leave and then told I had to leave or he would call Brandon PD. I’ve never in my 52 years had someone in a management position be so incredibly rude. When I went to get my daughter in the wave pool another gentleman indicated to him that he had the wrong guy. At this point I feel the “managers” ego would not allow him to backpedal so he stuck with I’m the guy. It was the most unprofessional display I’ve ever witnessed and had the displeasure of being involved in. The next day after check out we revisited the water park. Before the kids could have a chance to do much I was told I had to leave. I took all of this up with the front desk and someone who manages the resort remotely. I filed a complaint. I doubt from reading other experiences it will go anywhere. I was offered up some go cart tickets and arcade vouchers but she could not over rule the water parks decision and would investigate the incident. If you made it this far into this review I’d suggest save your money. This resort is overpriced for the services offered. The staff are very unpleasant and yes, the water at the water park...
Read moreNOT DISABILITY FRIENDLY. To begin- we have a child with a disability. I’m sure this review wont apply unless you also have family or friends with a disability. We know that life has its challenges when you have a kid with a disability. What you don’t expect is establishments to view a disability as an inconvenience. To begin with our hotel room was very close to the splash park entrance. With that being said we couldn’t find a parking spot until about 9:30 at night near our hotel room. It was a Friday night. We expected there to be limited parking but having no access to get him to our room from the vehicle became very difficult. Saturday I approached the desk. And spoke with the gals about reserved parking or any disabled parking. Explained the complications we were having and placement of our room. We were told they couldn’t do anything that the entire facility is “community parking” and “first come first serve” I was really surprised with the tone and surprised there was no efforts to move us rooms or offer help, came accross as a inconvenience or like I was dumb for asking. Even more shocked since they already had temporary reserved signs made for “shuttles” Not far from our room. . Many hotels and resorts we’ve been to will have either a temporary reserved sign to put up or even handicap parking. This made accessing the sidewalks from parking lot extremely difficult. There aren’t breaks in the sidewalk that have ramps. Not near our room on the backside of the main hotel atleast. We would have to weave between cars that had a big enough gap and hop the curb to get to our room. I was given the impression that with all the ramps in the photos it would be easier access. Similar with the Indoor mini golf. We couldn’t fit the cart down the isles to continually play… we kept having to pick up the cart and carry it to the next hole. I understand these aren’t things that are always thought of when constructing. But it was difficult and exhausting. As well as the show we watched. We expected he would be able to stay in his buggy, he’s a baby, 6 months, With disabilities. Fighting to keep him comfortable and out of his carrier was extremely difficult. Especially since he’s so fragile. We couldn’t understand why he couldn’t remain in it. We asked for isle seats just so we wouldn’t be in the way and explained he had a disability. Our other 3 children had an enjoyable time. They aren’t disabled and these weren’t inconveniences to them other than us slowing them down. However for myself, husband and our disabled 6 month old this was the furthest thing from a vacation. Today when we went to check out I was hoping to speak to someone other than the woman we spoke to previously but we had the same gal who had nothing helpful to say the day before so we just left. We understand life won’t be easy having a child with disabilities. And we are new to the world experiences. But we don’t expect things to be near as difficult as they were.
On a positive note the ramps in the waterpark were fantastic! Same with bathrooms they were all easily used. We very much enjoyed the food at the Buffett. Same with the grill at the water park, very good. Many lifeguards were kind and helpful (we had our hands full). Hotel was in a good area. Near a lot of neat things. And our room (location/parking aside) was great. Nice and clean. Only complaint was we hoped there would be a freezer with the mini fridge to keep our breast milk frozen until it was ready for use. Minor things that were only inconvenient if you needed it.
I would recommend to our “typical” friends and family. But not to anyone disabled/elderly since there is no accommodations that can be made.
Would love to give them another chance and leave a better review someday if some of these issues could...
