Elder's Ace Hardware- Bryson City — Attraction in Bryson City

A lot of employees who poke around to watch to make sure you're not stealing but not a single one asked "need help?" (I'm a loss prevention trained former retail worker. That "need help" makes folks not feel so targeted for having long dark hair. Hint hint.)

Cashier at the end was pleasant - after I wheeled my cart back. They didn't want to actually talk either until I forced the conversation)

Me: haven't been in here since before the change over. It's actually a hardware store Cashier: was it not? Me: It was a great tourist trap! I might actually come back. Cashier: no response, no thank you, no see you later... nothing. Me: wheels cart back over to cart area. Cashier: melts the facade and actually turns into a friendly "thank you! You didn't have to actually do that!" Me: used to work retail, I get how annoying it can be.....as I walked out the door.

(For context I am a very long time permanent Bryson City in town resident that usually goes to Cherokee or Sylva for projects because prior to Elder's taking over.... This shop has something in stock that I needed to etch storm doors out with that Cherokee didn't- which is why I didn't go to my usual spots today, plus I was having a hard time walking due to bursitis so I really wasn't in the mood to go to...

I love going to this little hardware store. They have so much selection. Only thing that’s a bit hard is there are a lot of people waiting around to help. That can be nice because there’s always someone around if I have questions, but being a woman that doesn’t look like I work on projects, I get a bit badgered about if I need help. It’s impossible to get to the back of the store without being asked a few times. I can’t just get in and get what I need. One man rudely kept asking until I answered that I’m going to the back to pick up an order. Some of the staff has even made fun of my children. So the professionalism is pretty low. I don't know what is happening to this place but it just seems like every time I come in here I get disappointed these days. I used to be able to ask questions and actually get answers but it seems like the people that are in here just lack knowledge. Also you guys quit selling the one inch chlorine tabs which is what every hot tub in this area needs. You only have the 3 inch chlorine tabs which is for a pool. How many pools are they're around here? Also I came to fill up a couple of propane tanks which I do on the regular. When was about half full already and the other was empty. I was told I couldn't partially fill the half full tank that I was going to be charged the full price. I mean how fair is that? Not fair at all. So disappointing. Where did the...
