Every time I step into Ulta I pray for a normal experience. Normal meaning I’m not being profiled and followed around the store and being asked a million times if I “need help with anything” if you understand what I mean. I’m socially aware and have come to terms with the possibility of having a “shopping while black” experience but it doesn’t make it hurt any less. It is not a crime to be black and to go into a store and just browse. Because of this I always immediately grab a shopping basket as soon as I enter a store regardless of the fact that I carry a tiny purse.
Today I was followed from aisle to aisle by the security guard pretending to apply skincare products. At first I ignored this but after a while it became blazing apparent I was being followed which made me extremely uncomfortable. Then after the security guard decided I wasn’t worth stalking I then started getting approached left and right by 4 separate store associates asking if I need help not even 2 minutes after each other. I was in the skincare section looking at peptide moisturizers so it wasn’t as if I was moving about the store into different departments during that period of time. I did find 10 minutes of solitude by fleeing to the other cheaper skincare section but by then I was so uncomfortable I hurriedly compared products and made my way to the cashier. (I also find it interesting how I wasn’t being harassed there)
Yet things got worse. The cherry on top was dealing with a rude cashier. She didn’t greet me or even smile. She quietly checked out my items, blandly told me my total, bagged my stuff then nudged the bag across the counter instead of handing it to me while making no eye-contact. I felt dehumanized, embarrassed and ashamed.
To conclude, I won’t be returning here and I’m resisting the urge and discomfort of confrontation to go back inside to return these items. As women we purchase self-care products as a form of therapy. Now imagine having a hard week, deciding to treat yourself and then being subjected to this kind of treatment. It’s apparent black business isn’t appreciated nor wanted here and it hurts because it’s something we didn’t ask for and establishments like this one refuse to change.
I also attached a picture of myself to eliminate the excuse of this expression not being race related but related to the way I...
Read moreI waited almost two months to review my experience in the Salon at Ulta. The reason behind that was that I kept telling myself that my hair will get in a better condition after all the money I spent trying to undo at least some of the damage that happened during my failed attempted to get a very basic clean, bright highlight and a low light. What a disaster that was!!! My hair was a horrible yellow/orange tone, even after the stylist put a toner over! This whole process took about 6 hours!!! I went back the next day for another 3 hours of processing, trying to at least reduce the orange and yellow color somewhat. It didn't work. My hair was absolutely disgusting looking, not to mention that after a couple of weeks my husband noticed that my hair snapped at the back because of all the processing! Let me tell you what they did: they used bleach +30 vol. when my hair lifts at 10 vol. The reason I know that is because I have managed high end hair salons back in Europe for over 15 years. My hair was totally destroyed! I invested in some really good products that I knew will help my hair repair itself. All those treatments and shampoos ( Moroccan Oil Repair range, Joico K-Pak Range and Moisture Recovery Range ) cost me about $200.00 I waited for two months for my hair to become stronger and healthier until I could finally get my summer blonde on. I wasn't even going to leave a review but guess what? If my experience there prevents another potential disaster, why not? Ladies, if you are looking for nice clean, bright highlights, this place is NOT for you!!! Do your research! Go somewhere else where they will be able to give you what you want and not fry your hair! The sales assistants are no better! They are more interested in gossiping than helping customers out! Overall I am absolutely disgusted with the whole experience! I will never go back to that Ulta ever again. And I should have also asked for my money back ($160.00) but...
Read moreCustomer service is the worst! I came to Ulta 11/14/24 at 10am the door didn’t open until 10:05am. The employee just unlocked the door, she didn’t open it or acknowledge the customer, she just walked away towards the cash register. I was in the store browsing for about 45 minutes before going to check out not one employee said hi to me at all. The employees were just talking to each other they weren’t friendly at all. I picked out two products that came with a free gift, but I had to mention to the cashier two of the items I purchased came with a gift. She looked at me dumbfounded and said I don’t think we have that in stock. I said well can you look or give me another gift instead? She then walked to the counter behind her, and looked inside the cabinet below. Then she said it’s sold out. I said I live down the street I can come back another day to pick it up. She then says it’s first come first serve and it’s out. I said well you should remove the sign on the product that says it comes with a free gift. She looks at me annoyed and dumbfounded again and said we’re out there’s nothing I can do. I said anyways I have another item that comes with a gift. She looked behind her and put a folded blow dryer in the bag. Ulta needs to work on hiring friendly staff that want to work and help customers. I went to MAC to get makeup after leaving Ulta, because the staff weren’t trying to help, so I spent my money elsewhere. I wish i would of just went to MAC instead of spending a penny in this rude store meaning Ulta. Ulta didn’t give me both of my freebies they only gave me one. I went to MAC and i got a friendly welcoming. A free gift that came with lots of goodies, and the customer service was amazing. Don’t waste your time at Ulta employees are rude, classless, and...
