Review: Tank Garage Winery - A Must Visit in Napa Valley
We traveled all the way from the UK for our first visit to Napa Valley, and choosing Tank Garage Winery turned out to be one of the best decisions of our trip. Tank stood out as something a bit different from the more traditional wineries, and it absolutely lived up to our expectations.
From the moment we walked into the cool, speakeasy-inspired tasting room—complete with a vintage Indian motorcycle and a pinball machine—we knew this place was special. The whole vibe was relaxed, fun, and full of character. But as much as we loved the unique atmosphere, the wines stole the show. Every sip was fantastic!
Our host, Patrick, made the experience truly memorable. He welcomed us warmly, made us feel right at home, and shared fascinating insights about the winemaking process. His passion for the wine shone through, and he answered all of our questions with care and enthusiasm. He created an experience that was both informative and enjoyable, making it feel personal and special.
We highly recommend Tank Garage Winery to anyone looking for something a bit different in Napa Valley. It’s a refreshing break from the ordinary, and Patrick’s hospitality made it unforgettable. We can’t wait to return on our next trip from the UK—already looking forward to another visit!...
The "Tank Garage Winery" is an enterprise that we have encountered in Europe only with a sparkling wine producer (Méthode Champenoise). On the one hand, we find this very exciting, but on the other hand, there is the risk that the qualities may vary in the succession of years, not only due to the weather. This results from the fact that this winery does not have its own cultivation area. Roughly speaking, this is a model of cooperative collaboration, with the somewhat unusual difference that not only the supplying wineries change, but also the purchased grape varieties differ in quantity and can sometimes be completely omitted. Thus, year after year, wines are created here, mostly cuvées, which are not directly comparable with the previous vintage. Whether this should be considered an advantage or a disadvantage, we are not able to judge after only one (!) visit on site. However, the company does a lot in the marketing sector to keep the curiosity of customers high year after year. For example, new labels are constantly being designed, some of them by artists well-known in the region, and this, too, is a novelty, with a few exceptions. The service station, which dates back to the 1930s and was also one of the first in the vicinity, has been superbly renovated and presents itself with great charm to guests interested in wine. The "Tasting-Room" is worth a visit not only because of the "Indian" deposited there, which was originally in the possession of the gas station attendant. The employees explain the new company concept to the visitors with charm and patience, and so we may conclude by describing the visit as worth experiencing, and this completely independently of what long-term judgment the wine expert may then come to. Read moreI have been to Tank Garage a handful of times to visit, drink wine and enjoy a winery that is quite unique in its own respect. The wines they make are not like what you would typically find elsewhere and they are absolutely delicious, plus the artwork on each bottle has a very retro feel that I really vibe with.
I love Tank for many reasons, one being the fact that they repurposed an old 1930 gas station/garage into a one of a kind tasting room with speakeasy vibes. If you are a member they have the member exclusive tasting section in the back with the speakeasy feel to it and the main tasting room area has some old pinball machines and games that also give you a sense of nostalgia. Their staff will take care of you and are very knowledgeable on what they are pouring and the story behind each of the wines they have.
If you want to go somewhere different that doesn't conform to the status quo of the typical winery then go to Tank Garage. I think you will be pleasantly surprised by the experience and won't be disappointed. If I could give this review 10 out of 10 I would, but the start system here only allots me 5, so multiply by 2 and that is what I...
