Growing up in DC with the Kennedy Center, it's kind of essential to approach the Coaster Theater will a good dose of perspective. I wasn't sure what to expect and seeing a theatrical interpretation of a Parker Bros. board game (Clue) didn't make that easier to anticipate. So, on the surface, it's a good night out in Cannon Beach. And to be sure, the uneven cast still opened up room for a few standout players (Mrs. White absolutely nailed it and her experience showed). But the real win here is the fact that there's an effort to use a little bit of the performing arts to keep theater in a beach town in Oregon that's best known for its iconic rocks protruding from the Pacific and several gorgeous state parks and beaches. Coaster reminds you that as a tourist visiting the beach, you're also dropping in on someone else's community and home. Within the seasonal businesses and restaurants that are going to be closed as often as they are open with the off-season in place, residents are doing the good work of keeping the town and area liveable for people don't use Cannon as a mere tourist stop. So $30 per person for a local production of an old off-broadway musical might set up greater expectations. But, remember...COVID. And remember that your ticket is an investment in keeping a beach destination "home" for a community that also makes it possible for that community to keep an open door for you. Get your tickets early in-season. Probably a lot easier in the off-season. But go. It's worth the good...
Read moreWe came over from Bend this past weekend to see and hear Curtis Salgado and his band at the Coaster Theater. It was a wonderful show, made all the more pleasant by the Theater and the folks responsible for the event.
The theater is small, intimate, with good views of the stage regardless of your placement in the audience. Buying tickets online was a breeze and we greatly appreciated the requirement for proof of COVID vaccination and wearing of masks before being allowed to enter.
Kudos to all who made the event happen and for keeping such a nice venue operable for the residents up and down the coast. The theater is...
Read moreI am so glad we decided to go to the show tonight, to see The Savannah Sipping Society. Starting the lovely ladies Ms. Tinker, Ms. Ennis, Ms. England and Ms. Lacaze. Barbi England I believed stole the show. Marlafaye Mosley reminded me of Kathy Bates in "Fried Green Tomatoes" meets Shirley MacLaine in "Steel Magnolias". She had some.of the best one liners and costumes. The minus one star is due to the second row being in line with the front row. Especially if someone with a hairstyle that was stolen from Texas it's right in front of you. I would suggest for 4th row up in the center of...
