I Heard about this place from a friend and I decided to do my daughters 3rd birthday party here, I saw on previous comments the owner suggested to visit on a Sunday and her birthday was on that day so we did and there weren't too many kids it was great for the little ones. The kids were climbing and sliding every where. My issue is the staff! it seems like the entire staff is under 17 and just started or wasn't properly trained. It also seemed like the manager on site was more interested in saying comments to his young staff rather then maintain the facility. The party room was horribly hot and we requested the fan located in the room be turned on. due to improper leadership from this manager the young host for the room plugged in this fan with a long extension cord hanging from the cabinet and in the walkway. My Nephew who is 2 tripped on this cord and I just had to unplug it since it didn't seem like the best nor safest alternative for a child's party room. The mascot of Makutus island should of been in there for more then 1 minute. he literally came in said hi and left. for the amount I paid for this party I expected him to at least sing happy birthday or interact way more with the kids. The room was so small it was a joke. The staff explained the party package I purchased was for the smaller room, that's fine if these children didn't have both mother and fathers not to mention grandparents! I had 12 children and 20 adults, I was so upset some of the adults had to stand in the hall way and door way. it would of been courteous of this manager had he of actually cared about the customer and the fact that we couldn't even enjoy the party to switch us to the larger room instead of insisting that if I did that I would of had to pay for a 20 children party! that's ridiculous! I didn't have 20 children I only had 12! I wonder what is the maximum capacity for that room and I will be contacting the city due to lack of safety! The food seemed under cooked we had the pizza in the party room and 4 out of the 12 children I had at the party were sick throwing up. Disgusting, How am I suppose to call those parents and apologize for the fact that their child got sick from my daughters birthday party food! embarrassing conversation to have! maybe I should have those parents call the Arizona Department of Health and safety. my advice to you parents out there, I defiantly suggest researching and visiting this location before booking a birthday party. ad if you do decide to book here don't...
Read moreI remember back in 1999 when this location was Club Disney when I was 4 years old. In 2001, when it was bought from Disney and became Makutu’s island, my mom took me there almost every weekend. I have so many fond memories walking across the rope bridge, sliding down the banana slide, and of course, the zip line.
I recently took my son, and I have to say, it hasn’t changed much, except for the up keep in both cleanliness and staff/ management. Bathrooms were gross and smelled of urine, A roach fell on my son’s head and scared him, and it looks like it hadn’t been cleaned since the last time I visited as a 12 year old in 2007. Staff was the farthest thing from being enthusiastic, even for the kids parties that were going on, and not to mention, extremely rude. On top of that, the cafe was absolutely disgusting. It was hard to find a table that was clean enough to eat on. Many had trash, crumbs, and old soda spills on that looked like they had been sitting there all day, maybe longer. The pizza however, did taste exactly how I remembered it, and Is nothing like the reused pizza at Chuck E. Cheese’s, and I was again brought back so many old memories. However, about an hour or two after my son and I got home, we both ended up really sick. Went to the Dr. and was told it was food poisoning, which honestly didn’t surprise me much with the place in such bad condition.
A note to management: please go back to the cleanliness and management styles you had 15 years ago. Kids spread and carry germs like wildfire and by not properly cleaning and sanatizing the play places, cafe, and bathrooms causes others to get sick which could lead to serious problems. My son will only know it as the place where the cockroach fell on his head, so please, take care of that issue too. Not only do they scare off kids and adults they carry a wide range of diseases too. Now, as for the staff, they’re supposed to be there to help give our children a fun experience. Not to just stand around on their phones and answer our questions with “I don’t know”. I genuinely miss the fun happy place it was when I was a kid, and it could all be changed if you took the time to pay attention to what’s going on. It would certainly bring in more business no doubt if the place was cleaned up more and the staff was friendly. Even the short lived Club Disney was better, but then again, it...
Read moreThis has been our 3rd time here, and definitely the last because of price. There are too many options with trampoline parks and other kid places that are cheaper and the kids have more fun IMO
The website says grip socks are needed - my son wore grip socks that we purchased from a trampoline park but the staff said they have to be Makutu’s island socks - we already had a pair at home so if the website stated that I wouldn’t have wasted $5 for another pair of socks.
I filled out 2 waivers in the past 12 months but for some reason it didn’t come up. I used the kiosk and tried to set up my pay through the kiosk which didnt work so that was annoying. My kid is dying to go play but they wanted us to take a selfie. We were a group of 4 parents and we left at separate times - 2 times they didn’t ask to see the selfie upon leaving and 2 times they did ask. Be consistent at least, but I personally don’t like the selfie thing, I was tired and irritated at the end and my hands were full of Togo boxes socks water bottles etc I’m not about to set all my stuff down to dig through my phone.
Pricing is fair since there is no time limit - the 7year olds got bored after 2 hours though. I feel bad for my friends with kids aged 1-2 that had to pay full price when we all know that age just runs around and doesn’t play on things, they should have a half price for kids that small. If you have kids all under the age of 3, this place isn’t worth the cost.
The food area was clean and plenty of seating, food was decent, but priced high. Fountain drinks are $3.99 and once again I hate the kiosk. The kiosk suckers people into leaving a tip which charged my friend a $20 minimum tip cuz it wasn’t clear on how to say no tip. I had to place my order and pay myself and there was no one to ask questions to. I ordered an icee and after I paid I find out it’s a 15min wait for the flavor my kid wanted.if you don’t want to tip you have to do a custom amount and enter in 0. I’m sorry but I’m sick of everything asking for a tip when it’s basically self service except for...
