I had my wedding at the Circular Congregational Church on 12/31. It is a beautiful venue but that is where it ends. Me and 7 others (including my 5 year old niece) were stuck in an elevator for almost an hour. At around the 45 minute mark, Kathryn the manager stated they had not even called the proper authorities, so my mother who had a panic attack in the elevator had to be the one to call. After we were let out quickly by the fire department, Kathryn made sure to let us know the firemen did nothing special, they only restarted the elevator. However, the firemen had us out in about 5 minutes while we were stuck for almost an hour under Kathryn’s management. Her apology was quick and very insincere, right before we all walked down the aisle. My husband emailed her and received no response, and she was extremely rude and doubled down on us 8 in the elevator being the issue when he met with her in person. She stated we were over the weight limit (very easy to prove wrong), and that we didn’t know how to use the call button properly. We used it twice and the operator could not hear us either time, and Kathryn herself told us it had been serviced 3 times last month so it was definitely an elevator issue. For a church, there was no sympathy or care exhibited. This was definitely run like a business and not a church, which is very sad. I hope anyone who wants their wedding here gets all correspondence in writing as they will go back on their word as soon as their wrongdoing is...

My daughter was married there on 12/31. They put us in a room with no mirrors and a wall of windows with zero privacy to get dressed. We were rushed by Shantall (who walked in and out without knocking) to the point that my daughter was in tears -then to top it off, we were stuck in an elevator for 45min before the ceremony. The emergency button in the elevator didn’t work, we could hear the fire dept but they couldn’t hear us and we were told by Kathryn that they had the button replaced 3 times, so they knew before hand that there was an issue. I called 911 myself after them leaving us trapped and not getting the fire dept there for 30 min. I literally had a panic attack in the elevator and my daughter had me sit in the corner to calm down. Kathryn blamed us for not knowing how to press a button and for being over the weight limit. (It’s 2500lbs- we were not close to that). That was the response to their negligence. Horrible people. Do...

This was one of the stops on the Ghost & Graveyard tour by Bulldog Tours in Charleston. Lots of interesting things to look at. The Circular Church was beautiful, even at night, and is surrounded on 3 sides by an old graveyard. It has some beautiful stained-glass windows and it's shape makes it even more awe-inspiring. We were told that part of the history of the place was that they buried yellow fever victims there, but because of the flooding from hurricanes, many of them aren't where they're...

I love old cemeteries and have been to over 200 hundred in New England, but I wanted to see how the designs and images on gravestones in Charleston compared with New England gravestones carved before 1800. I was surprised to see some of the typical skull with wings or soul effigy with wings that are so common in New England, but what surprised me were the number of gravestones with very finely carved images or likenesses of the deceased. If you like old gravestones, then this is a "must see" burial ground.

So very appreciate that this church allows you to walk through the cemetery and pick up the elements of history. The grave yard is well slept and even though time has done what time does there is plenty of tombstones that are in great condition. Did not get to visit inside the church but the exterior was beautiful and the architecture inspiring.
