4/30/2021. This restaurant lived up to the hype! First off, we knew there was going to be a wait but it's worth it and gives you time to explore King St antique stores and the City Market but you shouldn't go expecting to be seated immediately. We put our name in (table for two) around noon and were told it would be about an hour and they would text us 10 minutes before. Very friendly service and the host remembered my name and had us seated as soon as we arrived. People arriving around 1pm were told over 2 hours to wait, but kindly advised to put their name in later (if planning for a dinner time seating) expecting a long wait and to plan accordingly. The demand is high for this place but they have professionals working the front of the house and come across as inviting. They also didn't rush us out after we finished eating to get more people in. The service was top notch and friendly.
We were able to get in at the bar which featured expertly crafted and unique cocktails. This is one of those places where the drinks are just as important as the food. The 167 Martini was made with tequila and spectacularly refreshing. The TIKI OLD FASHIONED was made with several kinds of rum I can't even begin to understand and was a superior cocktail and must try.
I was going to get a half dozen raw oysters (fresh chalk-board selection mostly from MA) but saw the guy next to me had ordered 6 roasted oysters and I had to get them. Excellent! Roasted with herbs and cheese they were so damn good. I even got my gf to try her first oyster and she liked it! The oyster po boy was served almost lobster roll style but with unique sauces and seasonings (I'm not expert enough to explain the details here). Perfectly fried oysters, great buttered roll - smaller than "normal" but each bite was quality and most larger po boys are too much bread and filler. At only $14 it was hardly overpriced. More people seemed to be into the lobster roll, which I almost regret not trying but the oyster po boy was exceptional. Probably different accent flavors than most people have tried in a po boy but the oyster flavor was definitely featured.
Fresh chips and guac, above average carnitas taco, and the petit side salad was also very good. Key lime pie perfect ending. Superior restaurant experience and would recommend for crafted cocktails and fresh seafood in...
Read moreIf you’re searching for a seafood haven in Charleston, 167 Raw Oyster Bar (193 King St) is an absolute gem that delivers on every front. I had the pleasure of dining here for lunch, and it was an unforgettable experience that’s earned a permanent spot on my must-visit list.
The star of the show was, hands down, the best lobster roll I’ve ever had. Generously stuffed with tender, succulent lobster, it struck the perfect balance of rich, buttery flavor and light, fresh simplicity. The roll was toasted to perfection, complementing the pristine seafood without overpowering it. Beyond the lobster roll, the oyster selection was impeccable—briny, fresh, and expertly curated. Watching the oyster shuckers behind the bar was a treat in itself; their knowledge and passion for their craft shone through as they shared insights about each variety, elevating the experience.
The service was equally impressive. The staff was efficient, attentive, and genuinely enthusiastic, guiding us through the menu with thoughtful recommendations that made us feel like regulars. Their expertise helped us pair oysters and dishes perfectly, enhancing every bite.
The atmosphere at 167 Raw is vibrant and inviting, with a lively buzz that captures Charleston’s coastal charm. The space offers a few different seating styles—whether you prefer cozying up at the bar to watch the shucking action or settling into a table for a more relaxed vibe, there’s something for everyone. The decor is chic yet unpretentious, blending nautical touches with a modern edge that feels quintessentially Lowcountry.
For anyone visiting Charleston, 167 Raw is a must for lunch. It’s the kind of place where you can savor world-class seafood, soak in a passionate culinary culture, and leave already planning your next visit. Just be prepared for a potential wait—this spot is popular for a reason! Pro tip: Arrive early to snag a seat and dive into their...
Read moreMy wife and I stopped in on Friday, 20 June 25 while visiting Charleston for a concert on Daniel Island. My wife had been before, and wanted to share the experience with me. We arrived around 1120-ish, and were told we would need to wait around 30 or so minutes for a seat. Very reasonable, since the restaurant had just opened at 11. We took the opportunity to walk around a bit. We were notified around 1150 that our seats were ready, and were seated at the Bar, which we love to do. First, Chris behind the bar greated us, and just let us settle in. We discussed the menu with him, and decided to start with 2 of each of the oysters that were available at the time. All were well shucked, and delicious, and accompanied by two great sauce options. Chris then got our drinks, and made some great recommendations as we moved on past the oysters.
We ended up moving around the menu, part based on the experience my wife had previously, and also based on Chris' recommendations, without trying "oversell" us. We definately appreciated that! Everything we got was fresh, delicious, yet not overly filling...an enjoyable time! We went in for lunch, and ended up rolling through a few sets of "neighbors" at the bar, and making a new friend in Chris behind the bar!
I will add that it definately appears that the menu seems to change daily, and at points throughout the day, Chris knew it all, and didn't skip a beat when being asked for recommendations, quite impressive for sure!
We did spend time there, but for all we had, (and rounding out our stay with an awesome Manhattan and Espresso Martini - Thanks again Chris!) our bill was pretty reasonable for all we had.
We had hoped to get back there, but our schedule for our quick visit to Charleston did not allow it. We will go again if/when we return in the future!
Great place to stop when in town, and ask for Chris' station at the bar! You...
