YMCA of Greater Charlotte — Attraction in Charlotte

They have the largest selection of group classes at this YMCA location. The classes are current, relevant, and fun. The instructors are all very friendly and make modifications to any of the moves if you need them. Everyone is so friendly, you can't help but feel included here. They building is currently 4 floors, which can be a bit confusing at first. Once you know where everything is located, it is very nice. The machines are well-maintained. Just like every gym, it is hard to get the equipment you want in the evening times, as that is the gym's busiest time. They do have a large selection of machines, though. Some of my favorites are the weight racks, rather than just boring Smith Press, rowing machines, and more. They have medicine balls, kettle-bells, bosu balls, and other work-out related gear for you to use. They also have a selection of machines and weights in each locker room so you can work out in a same-sex environment if you are uncomfortable in the general weight room. This location has many amenities, including a cool pool, warm pool, basketball courts, racquetball courts, general store, dry-cleaning service, and more. They have an on-site parking lot, in addition to a parking deck that is half a deck away. This location is also child-free. You must check your child in to the day care center, and they are not allowed to come to any classes. That is, to me, a HUGE perk of this location! BE CAREFUL: Apparently they take money without fully fulfilling their end of paid for services. Johnston location canceled 2 Swim classes due to weather, they've only rescheduled 1 to make up for the 2 canceled. When asked about the 2nd makeup class date they instructed me to contact a person who doesn't return emails. Then given a number to who's above her only to get supplied a number for a person not at that number who allegedly can answer. I've been given the run around simply for expecting what was paid for as agreed at time of purchase. It's bad enough nowhere on the sign up for the session did it mention there wouldn't be classes on Memorial Day. That impact choice of session to take. We found out on the 1st day of class in a rude & laughing in our faces manner for asking. Mecklenburg County Park & Rec are now also offering swim classes for a MUCH cheaper cost. Had Google supplied that information before I signed up for the YMCA, I'd have picked them instead bcuz everything I've heard about the Y has been proven true via this experience. So unfortunate for a once reputable organization. The weather was out of their control & understandable for why class was canceled but the unprofessional followup & dodging of providing even an answer pertaining to service paid for is giving scammer vibes. The Dowd Branch YMCA of Charlotte, North Carolina is a great YMCA that gave me a great workout experience, and exceeded my expectations. Here's why I liked the Dowd Branch YMCA:

Dowd Branch YMCA has such a large variety of equipment for whatever type of exercise you might be looking for. For example, it doesn't matter if you're into cardio, weightlifting, swimming, spinning, running, or cross-fit because there's something for everyone. Not only does the Dowd Branch YMCA have a variety of equipment, but it's also the newest equipment on the market. This is not only the latest and greatest equipment (state of the art), but it's also laid out perfectly throughout the Dowd Branch YMCA. I have been to several other YMCAs, nonetheless, none compare to the Dowd Branch YMCA. No other training facilities or gyms can compete with the Dowd Branch YMCAs equipment, equipment cleanliness, employee professionalism, facility cleanliness, or overall facility as a whole.

Also, all employees at Dowd Branch YMCA are prompt, professional, courteous, and tactful. Every employee at the Dowd Branch YMCA went above and beyond for me. Dowd Branch YMCA of Charlotte, North Carolina has a welcoming atmosphere that leaves the customer wanting to come back time and time again.

The overall cleanliness of the Dowd Branch YMCA is above average from that of other YMCAs I have been to as well.
