By far my first experience and will be my last experience due to the unprofessional manager that was running last night shift April 16,2022 at around 9pm-10pm I arrived at this restaurant and was definitely amazed at the atmosphere nice table arrangements and the live DJ was definitely killing it last night . I placed an order through a friend who was already seated at table before I arrived . I came with my cousin so we both ordered food 2 steak and fried plates the only difference in orders I wanted EXTRA TERIYAKI on my steak through the friend that was already seated. When we arrived we were greeted by a waitress she took our drink order and told us our food would be out soon. Shortly after our food arrived we noticed quite a difference in the plates . My cousins plate was simple bowl with fried rice and cut up steak pieces on top. My plate was very different huge flat plate with a scoop of rice and veggies and steak with teriyaki drizzled on the top . We definitely noticed the plate difference and was unable to inform the waitress due to her being very busy with other tables . After eating a few bites of my food which I didn’t eat much , the check was brought out with a very big price difference of $45 NY STRIP PLATE W/VEGGIES as for my cousin who ordered the same as me $25 Steak and rice . I immediately asked for the waiter why such a price difference for the same meal . The manger made his way over (light skin Latino guy curly black hair) he immediately started to put the BLAME on me I was so in shock . I explained to him the my friend at the table put our order in the only difference in plates were suppose to be TERIYAKI sauce on one. He immediately said “did you not see the huge plate difference?” I explained to him that I had never been to this restaurant and had no idea what I was getting I just order teriyaki steak and rice . This guy reached out me and took the plate right out of my hands and said “ I will discount the food but you can not take any food home “ I was so utterly shocked the table of 6 people strongly disagreed of his behavior. It turned into a yelling and screaming match over one plate of food . I never refused to pay I just asked my bill be the same as the person who ordered the exact same thing as me . The manager took the plate and discounted my bill a grand total of $7 for the $65 bill . I was very disappointed in his management skills taking food away from somebody due to a miscommunication between the waitress and the person who ordered my food . Nobody was to blame but the Manager definitely pointed fingers at the wrong person . I will be responding this multiple places Including BETTER BUSINESS BEREAU . He does not deserve to have a job like that in such a beautiful lively restaurant taking food out of people’s mouths and pointing the finger at the guest . Thank you

Overall, I had a good experience here at Nikko. We made a reservation for 6:30pm but there was plenty of seating when we got there. It took a while to take a look over the menu and decide the right course of action because most of their entrees were on the pricey side. I was trying to decide on what the right amount of food was that wouldn’t cost too much. We started out with the Kakuna ($11) which was very tender. The baby bokchoy helped balance the meatiness of the pork belly. However, I do wish the bokchoy was a little more crunchy to add another level of texture. Next, we ordered the Lobster Roll ($25) off of their specialist menu and the Nikko Roll ($15) from their regular sushi menu. The lobster roll was nice where there was nicely cooked lobster pieces on top of the roll. The shell that comes plated with the roll is empty. While the sushi did taste great, I would say that if you’re looking for just sushi, you’ll get more bang for your buck at one of the all you can eat sushi restaurants around Charlotte. Finally, we got the spicy miso ramen ($14) since it was cold and rainy outside. It helped warm us up and had a nice hint of spice. There was maybe one handful of ramen in the bowl as you can tell that it was mostly soup. Our waitress was nice but would be gone for a prolonged period of time. Sometimes we needed more of our drinks but had to wait until she came back. Like how some other reviewers have stated, the atmosphere of the restaurant can be described as sushi restaurant meets nightclub. They played techno music while we ate. It wasn’t too loud and it was nice for our anniversary date. I wish we could have been seated near the trees. I should have asked for that so it wasn’t their fault. As I said in the beginning of the review, the experience was good so if you want to try somewhere new for a date, it could be a nice place to go. Next time, I would try one of the other larger entrees instead of the sushi.

Surprisingly great sushi in Charlotte is Nikko’s Japanese Restaurant and Sushi. •Complimentary Valet service, the valet personnel politely opens the doors for you. •Hostess staff presented great service and greats you with a welcoming smile. •The bar is on the left as you walk in and we got drinks while waiting on the rest of our party. •The DJ booth is on the right (on weekends) who played all sorts of music top hits to electronic dance, 80’s and today’s hits that gets you pumped and happy to being at Nikko’s. It was great seeing other customers got out of their seats and do the “Cha cha slide” •The sushi bar was spectacular with the back walls lighted up with different colors. •My lychee martini was on point, strong alcohol topped with the actual lychee fruit. It was so good, I had two lychee martinis and was already feeling the music! The Bloody Mary was great too! •Service from waitstaff was on point, we moved and shuffled around our seats and the nice server managed to get our checks right! •The decor was impeccable, nicely decorated with authentic Japanese statues, trinkets, and pictures of geishas. If you look closely, the pictures is the owner of the restaurant in her beautiful silk kimonos. •The dinner and drink menu is intensive with specials. •Sushi to Teriyaki hibachi entrees. •Sashimi and raw oysters were fresh. The happy staff of Nikko’s Japanese Restaurant and Sushi breeds happy environment for customers so you feel welcomed, such a breath of fresh air! The ambience is great if you don’t mind the loud music.

If I could give this place a negative star I would! Tonight I attended a birthday party celebration that SHOULD have ended with a great dinner. Unfortunately not only did we have a completely disgusting experience, the night wad ruined because our string or waiters to management insisted on arguing with the group about incorrect food orders, cold food, and overall disgusting attitudes from simple requests. Ive never had a manager speak to a group of grown women as disrespectful ever in my life. A quick example of the service we received: Two out of the group of 10 women who ordered food selected a flash fried sushi roll and a deep fried sushi roll. Both initially came to the table freezing cold. We politely asked out second water for the night, after we were traded out with another because our initial waiter had a massive attitude bringing out JUST waters to the table, to bring out warmer sushi rolls. Mind you these two are put in a fryer, one longer than the other, and should not be freezing cold. They came out with the retuned sushi rolls and insisted the deep fried roll shouldn't be warm. The flash fried roll was warmer than the deep friend roll. The manager literally argued with one of the grown women in our group stating it shouldn't be listed on their menu as deep fried but flash fried and isn't a hot roll. He even had the nerve to go get a menu to prove a point not realizing on the menu it specifically states the deep fried in bold letters lol. Once he was proven wrong he crumbled the menu up in our faces and stated" Im not going to argue with you all night', and proceeded to walk away from our table. Literally those exact words in front of a group of women who just came out to enjoy a friends birthday. The young lady who ordered the deep fried roll was so upset she couldn't eat and left the restaurant to sit in the lobby after coming in from out of town to celebrate with a friend and feeling completely disrespected by this member of management. THAT is just ONE of the disgusting encounters we had with this restaurant over the course of an hour and a half. Please be mindful the atmosphere is nice, the dj was excellent, so you will be fooled initially. However, the SERVICE and FOOD are well overrated for the price you have to pay. Management sets the tone in any business. As a member of leadership your job is to resolve the consumers issues with the mind that they keep your business running and you stepping into a position to provide a service. Those men and women from waiters to management were rude and completely untrained or aware of true leadership and customer service. Truly a disgusting experience and I will tell...

Unethical waitress. Party of two who frequently go to this restaurant. Normally great experience. Food was the norm. Bill was $75. I'm a tipper. We always leave tips even if the service wasn't up to par. When the bill arrived I noticed there was a 20% gratuity added. FOR A PARTY OF TWO. as stated we tip really well. However, I was curious why this was added since I've never noticed it in the past. I asked the waitresses and she stated "20% was added bc it's a special night". Which was a regular Saturday, a rainy evening and no peak time. I responded "excuse me, I don't understand what special night means". She became annoyed and grabbed the receipt out of my hand and said "I'll take it off". She returned with the new bill minus the gratuity, and when I asked for a manager she said "I took it off" I still requested a manager. Prior to her going to get her.. she tried to gather all the bills to take the previous bill reflecting the 20%, but left one in error🥴 That immediately triggered me, and prompted me to ask for a manager. again. The manager was super understanding and apologetic. In the beginning she tried to make the argument that normally on a busy Saturday night people don't tip that's why she may have added it. I was not letting that be a feasible reason. We are not everyone and it was more about principal than the amount. She offered free food, appetizer or drink, but we didn't need any of that simply sharing our unhappy experience and wondering how many customers does she do this to who don't pay attention to the bill break down and still tip in addition to that.?! We could care less about free stuff. She was adamant about wanting to do something to offset a little bit of the unhappiness. I ended up taking a piece of lava cake which was thrown away bc I left it in the car. All this to say "check your bill". I'm sure she does this often which to me is STEALING from customers who are already willing to pay. I only left her $6.. I didn't want to give her anything but left the bare minimum simply bc my spirit doesn't allow me not to tip BUT I totally didn't want to give her rude a$$ anything after she snatched that bill and lied about the reason the 20% was initially added😡. Imagine how many people never noticed on a busy night?! Ughhhh I'm annoyed all...
