Unfortunately there is no museum it's 1 room, full of literature. No visual exhibits. The original Musuem is gone, the location was sold. None if the original exhibits are on display. I hope they bring them all back plus new exhibits once they find a new space but it's been more than 2 years since the original museum sold. Charlotte is a city rich in history and full of diversity we need our black history museum back asap. We need a place to bring children, adults and elders to spend the day viewing videos, using the interactive exhibits, sitting at the counter and back of the bus's displays, seeing the visual article's of clothing, house hold products, supplies, etc that existed in the early 1900's . Just to visual step back in time in a church, Barbershop, store, school, house, theater, was amazing. We loved the original Musuem. We made videos at the end after enjoying the day at the video machine and had lunch in the Cafe next door. We were so hurt when we arrived today with our family members from Indiana to proudly show them our Queen City Black history museum. We walked in to the new location to a 1 room location full of billboards of small print. No visual stimulation, nothing. We were out in 14 minutes. I was...
Read moreWe attended the museum as vendors filming and photographing a wedding. The museum was easy to find and there are plenty of parking lots and decks(both paid around $10) within a 2 minute walk to the front door.
The staff are very friendly and were able to help us out with all the wedding details. Again our main purpose was to film the wedding, but we were able to walk around and see all the attractions and get a good feel for the artistry.
The museum is quite large and there is plenty of memorabilia to see. There are many attractions on both the main floor and upper levels ranging from sit down theater movies, to full size replicas of homes, school buses, shops and more. The attention to detail is spot on and the entire walk through was clean as could be. My only downside was that I wish we had more time to spend reading/seeing all of the exhibits! I would gladly go back again to visit here and read up on the history of...
Read moreI enjoyed the exhibits, and my wife, who just moved here from Japan, really enjoyed seeing the history of the city and area. I wasn't a fan of the upstairs exhibit, however, but to each their own.
What really ruined the experience for me, was when I realized my parking wasn't validated, I walked back over and told the girl behind the front desk the machine was telling me I owed $16, and I don't think the validation worked. She told me sometimes the machine says you owe money even if your parking is validated (the other member of my group's ticket didn't show that...) and when I told her this she said it was fine. Sure enough, as I try to leave the deck, the machine says I owe $16! As cars stacked up behind me, the parking attendant got on her walkie and after a few minutes I was cleared. You'd hope front desk attendants can at least validate your parking correctly, to avoid an embarrassing situation that's a...
