I have only been a member here for less then a few weeks, but i have been a regular at local gyms trying to get back into shape. Before i start; let me state my review will be very long, but as honest as i can be from MY personal experience. Again this is MY experience, and from the bottom of my heart its what i mean. So, Im a dude whos been underweight, severely, for most of my life, im going on 30 years old and its time i take my life and my health serious.
I signed up here and got a tour by one of the staff before the actual sign up. The guy who took me on the tour answered every question i had, was a charming guy with a constant smile, and didnt try to "sell it" to me like other gyms really try to force you into membership, he was hands down the best tour guide ive ever met at a gym. The gym itself is immaculately clean, well taken care of, spacious, has a moderately big and very clean locker room that THANKFULLY does not smell of strong chemicals like other gyms. Ontop of that, the staff is by far the friendliest and most interactive staff ive seen at any gym, personally.
All the equipment is new, as Oakley Crunch Fitness opened up not long ago, however the staff is doing a great job keeping it maintained and cleaned from my own inspection. They dont just stand around at the entrance and do nothing; these guys and gals are constantly on the move getting things done and helping out everyone who walks in the door. Any questions i have had were answered quickly and by multiple staff members who helped me out.
When i had signed up, i got a free assessment with one of the trainers. Now, i knew going into this i would be very out of shape, and i am, but the trainer i had seen, Steve, was very informative and thorough in answering my questions; where as trainers at OTHER gyms in the past were dismissive and just trying to sell a product/membership. I am hoping to meet some of the other trainers on my next time in the door and get to know them.
Lets see what else can i put? During its peak hours, mainly after 5pm, it is very busy and there are classes , such as Yoga, going on. Be aware that during these times it will be difficult to find a machine despite there being SO many options. Thats not necessarily a bad thing either! people are trying to get fit and in shape, and after work is the prime time to do so. To counter this, come at around 8pm if your schedule allows, as it begins to wind down at 8-9pm and machines are plentiful!
I have read other reviews of this location, and i went in with optimism even if there were a couple negative ones, but the staff really sold it. They deserve raises and praise, they've been nothing but kind and understanding even to a twig, underweight dude such as myself. I wish i could meet the manager and give my compliments in person, whomever is the manager of this gym is DOING IT RIGHT. Great job! Keep your staff motivated and happy, they are doing fantastic work, but dont be afraid to look for improvement in those you hire too if they arent up to par.
Looking foward to getting , hopefully, to my ideal goal weight and hopefully making some friends in the process at the gym. Would be awesome to meet like minded individuals and become spotters or fellow lifters. Thank you for opening up this gym, right near LA fitness and Planetfitness, and bringing good competition to the area.
One more thing before i leave off; the pricing is perfect. If you are on a budget this is a great gym with great facilities and services, AND the trainers DONT try to shoe-horn you into buying their services, that is a -huge- thumbs up from me. They are helpful, honest, and respectful if you are severely underweight, such as myself, or overweight. They all seem to genuinely want to help.
Once again , thank you everyone at Crunch, its been...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreI had several really terrible experiences here. My husband purchased a membership to this gym in part because they have childcare. However my children do not watch TV. We come for 30 minutes to an hour tops. When we purchased a membership we explained that our children do not watch TV and they promised to turn the TV off when my children came. That happened many times, until it did not. One day I dropped my children offer childcare and there was one other child in the room. I ask them if they would turn the TV off and the manager in the room asked why. I said my children do not watch TV and she said but this is the cutest movie! She eventually turned it off but gave a lot of pushback. When I came back later the TV was on again. I talked to the manager of the entire location and he explained that in the morning They could accommodate no television but in the evenings they could not promise that because of higher numbers of children. I understood came once more in the evening because they had low numbers and had a child care provider that I specifically trusted because she had never show on my children television Before. However when I came to pick up my child again the TV was on even though there were only one other child in the room. It was not because of numbers that the television was turned on, they turned it on knowing I had asked them not to. I began to only come in the mornings. Yet again, I came into the room One morning and clarified with a child care provider that my child did not watch TV. She cheerfully agreed and said that she and the one other child would not be watching television. When I came back the TV was on. Again there was only one other child in the room. She said the other child had wanted television so they override my request for no TV. I tried to speak to the manager about the situation and he talked to me for a few minutes telling me that hypothetically other childrenās parents might be upset That their children werenāt allowed to watch television. I explained that it was really important to me to be able to have a place to work out and the situation has not been that the numbers were too high and the TV was needed, They were simply showing my children television against my will and after having promised they would not. I tried to work out the situation with the manager but he cut me off mid conversation before we reached a resolution and went back to work. I will no longer be returning to the gym and I am very disappointed because I had been hired to teach yoga there but will not be doing so. The childcare portion of this gym will lie to your face and tell you they respect your boundaries with your children and then completely disregard them...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreThe gym itself has a decent amount of equipment (besides the fact that the leg abductor has been out of order for like a month now) and it is pretty clean, I have no complaints about the facility. However the staff hasnāt impressed me. No one is professional, they make it seem like itās a hassle they have to answer your questions, and they seem to do whatever they want and make up their own rules. Iāve been there late at night, 10PM-11PM, and they had the music blaring so I couldnāt hear anything through my headphones and the staff was nowhere to be found for a majority of my workout. Another time when I asked about the procedure for using the tanning beds they did not tell me eye protection was necessary so I tanned with my eyes open and nothing covering them... I realize I should have done more research before doing something new like that, but I would like to believe it is their job to inform me since I literally asked what Iām supposed to do. One time my boyfriend and I walked in and the guy taking our cards said āWelcome to Crunch, we have weights and shitā. What the hell kinda greeting is that... and this last thing is a bit of just personal preference, but I was trying out a type of side lunge and a personal trainer approached and tried to give me tips which is nice enough, but he wouldnāt listen to me when I was trying to explain I was doing a different type of lunge than he thought I was therefore his tips were irrelevant. I chalked it up to just being a woman at the gym, itās not uncommon for men to try and āhelpā when no help is needed. But I can understand it is his job and maybe he thought he was doing something nice, not something I enjoy during my workouts though.
And for all these reasons I have stopped going to this one and usually go to the Anderson gym, I have had no problems like this at...
