Update on older seats. They aren't bad. Like. At all. I think the Cinemark on powers has everyone spoiled. I'm a big guy and I actually found the old AMC seats comfortable
TLDR: Wouldn't sell dune buckets till thursday Dolby screen/Sound is pretty good (sound very good imo) Seats dirty. (lolipop sucker in my cup holder, trash) -Bring your own straws (the straws they have easily crack and leave them un-usable. I went through two then just started drinking from the cup without a lid) Entire place reeks like butter (it's a theater, so it should be okay?) -Bathrooms clean -Staff is mid (they are kids, so just like every other theater, lack any salesmanship).
The Dolby was cool. I'm used to seeing most of my movies in Imax at the Cinemark on powers. So take my review of the Dolby theater this place has, with a grain of salt.
The Dolby theater does have reclining seats. They weren't very comfy for me. The legs don't extend far enough up. The head rest pushes into your head so your lower back/middle back has little support. I wouldn't want to watch a three hour movie in one. But could tolerate it if I had to.
The Dolby screen was very good. The sound was fantastic.
Staff was okay.
They wouldn't sell any dune buckets before Thursday which is lame. Lost some revenue there for sure. I didn't even want the popcorn lol.
The DOLBY theater and most of the place reeks like butter. Which, i mean. It's a movie theater. So i guess that's fine. The cleaning for the DOLBY theater in terms of the seats needs to be addressed by management. My seat was pretty dirty with debris, and my cup holder had a finished sucker in it. By all means, it's not the end of the world, just pointing it out. Pretty gross to have to move someone else's spit covered stick and even more of an annoyance having to go wash my hands.
The bathrooms were very clean.
I like how you can get more soda if you want. Plus the popcorn refill is cool.
I only visited this place because I purchased their A list thing where you get 3 free movies a month and I also wanted to experience the DOLBY theater.
THE STRAWS ARE STRAIGHT GARBAGE. 100% ANNOYING, AND A HASSLE TO USE.
BRING YOUR OWN REAL STRAW. Trust me. I used two, and both straws ended up cracking in the middle or top, so it made it useless. I was drinking my soda with the lid off for half the movie.
I did not have popcorn since the place wouldn't sell me a dune bucket before Thursday. Annoying. I guess I understand. If it were me though. I would avoid saying they have them at all, and just flat out lie, and say you haven't received the shipment yet. I'd accept that more than "we have it, but we aren't...
Read moreAVOID - GO TO CINEMARK EAST INSTEAD. WARNING: Despite what any website says, this AMC does NOT have Reserved Seating in all the theaters. Nor does it have any comfortable recliners in all the theaters. This place is stuck in the last century. The seats DO have cup holders tho... That must be the reason for the more expensive ticket prices. And all of the nickel and dime stuff. You can either buy a really small bag of popcorn for $7 OR get the HUGE tub for just a $1 more! Same scam with the drink cups. Want caramel corn with that tub you just bought...sorry you gotta buy the SPECIAL (smaller) tub for $2 more...and NO refills...'this Hobby Lobby corn is expensive!!!'. Oh, but you can have all the stale popcorn you can choke down with the other tub...cooked fresh ONCE daily, just for you!
Why did I put the Cinemark comment at the very beginning? Do yourself a favor and buy the Movie Club for $9 a month. You get a free 2D movie ticket with that and all other tickets are $9 after that. Unused monthly tickets carry over. 20% off concessions. If you get the reusable plastic cup and popcorn bucket, they take 20% off those too. And guess what...the 'special' kettle corn is the same price as regular popcorn. Imagine that. Oh, I almost forgot. Reserved seating in every theater, with the comfy recliners, and NO online ticket fees. At AMC, I just paid $15 for one 3D ticket...on a Sunday night...and that wasn't even their "big" theater. I am never going back here. You...
Read moreThis is a pretty average theater across the board and about what you'd expect from a mainstream movie-going experience. And that's not high praise. Lots of lines, ridiculously over-priced concession items, upselling for literally everything, and "bare minimum" levels of cleaning to avoid looking like it's been abandoned.
On the plus side, the food was at least decent (i.e., edible). We naturally avoided the popcorn (over-cooked, poor prep), but the hotdogs, pretzels, and curly fries were perfectly fine. Once again, putting aside the price tag.
The movie experience was also average. At least once the show started... after 27 minutes of ads, trailers, and other useless stuff. The seats were OK, the screen was on the smaller side for the auditorium size, and the audio was acceptable. At least it wasn't too quiet/loud, and there was enough rumble to give you that "big screen" feel.
In either case, I consider this an overall positive. As it reminded me why I stopped going to theaters in the first place. We only came here as we were traveling on vacation and the weather limited our options on this particular day.
At least we didn't have any annoying patrons to deal with. But theaters have seriously got to step it up if they want to remain relevant. Or people will go back to watching movies at home. And with how expensive it is (for what you get), you'd be surprised how quickly it adds up, and how long that goes toward building your own...
