To Whom It May Concern,
My uncle passed away last week and his funeral was Sept 19th. I live in the Lincoln, Nebraska area so my husband and I planned to drive out on a Monday for the 10 am service on Tuesday the 19th. I'm not familiar with Colorado Springs but wanted to find a hotel that was close to both the church and my aunt and uncle's home. Your hotel fit that description perfectly. Over the years, I have preferred calling in to make my reservations instead of doing it online so I made the call. The man who took my reservation talked so fast he was difficult to understand, at one point I asked him to repeat his information. He told me he would but that I needed listen and not interrupt him. I had requested a king room and gave him my info spelling out my last name and my email address as my name sounds different than it is spelled. Fortunately, he also took my phone number and I was given a confirmation text. During our conversation, he also put me on hold and when he came back told me that unfortunately he couldn't give me the original rate he'd told me which was $134 but it would now be $184 and that it was non-refundable. (I made this reservation on Thursday Sept 14, 2023) He told me I would also receive an email but it never came through.
After talking to him, I looked at my confirmation text and noticed he had misspelled my name and email -- spelling it Qubik instead of Kubik, and the room was for 2 queens at a rate of $149. After talking with him, I didn't want to call back and just figured I'd deal with it. I needed the room and wanted to be close to my aunt. I understand misspellings happen but when the guy on the other end of the phone was rude and despite me spelling my name still got it wrong I was irritated.
When I arrived at the hotel a precious woman named Lacy checked me in. I told her my name was misspelled in the reservation as she asked to see ID -- when she asked further questions about my reservation, I told her I had asked for a king room but was told I there wasn't available and it was non-refundable. She got me a king room and told me the rate would be $115 before taxes! I was thrilled!! I went on to tell her about the guy on the phone. I almost always write names down but this time I did not though I can't help but wonder if this guy was at a calling center and not at the hotel. Lacy even gave me two bottles of water. I didn't book my room with Hampton Inn because of the price -- I don't travel much but I do travel enough to know if I want to stay someplace nice I'm going to be paying between $150-200 or more. But what I was irritated at was all the different prices the guy on the phone gave me and they still weren't correct. Obviously, the $115 rate thrilled me, but I was booking based on location, not price.
My husband and I own our own business. I deal with difficult customers regularly and I tend not to write messages or contact hotels if things don't go my way. I realize many frustrating situations just happen and 90% of the time we have great experiences wherever we stay -- but Lacy was a delight and I wanted her actions noted as making an irritating situation much better. I wish I would have written down the name of the man I talked to....I would be frustrated if he represented my company and spoke to my customers like he did me. Don't get me wrong, I know some customers have crazy questions and requests, but we still try to help and accommodate as much as we can. Bottom line, Lacy was a gem. I also noticed while I was there another customer who was staying there and knew her by name. I assume a frequent traveler. He spoke to her and she to him in the sweetest manner indicating to me that she is always kind and accommodating -- it wasn't just with me.
Thank you for your time -- and your hotel facility at Colorado Springs I-25 is absolutely wonderful. I thought it was brand new but Lacy informed me it was 2 years old!...
Read moreA newer build in the Northern Academy area. Super clean with friendly staff. The rooms are a really good size even in single bed ones (I’ve stayed in both single and double), they’re charmingly decorated with vibrant colors to take away from those neutrals hotels stick to. Breakfast is served hot or grab n go style, whichever you choose. Coffee and tea available all day, which is exceptionally great in winter. Great for families or children less couples/ families/ business trips. The little convenient shop is stocked with some good options if you have a late craving, otherwise if you can’t go out just order grubhub to have it delivered from wherever. The area itself is perfectly convenient. There is a mall and a couple shopping centers across the street (mall is older but not a complete blah, they’re updating it, but it still has some good stores and good eating options)the closest shopping center has an O Reillys in case you need car stuff, Ihop, Dollar tree, other random stores, A nice shopping center across from the mall on the Briargate side with a Whole Foods/DSW/Nordstrom rack, Old Navy, Best Buy , aside from that almost anything you’re craving is nearby within walking or a mile for any dietary exemption.
I have yet to experience all the amenities and will update my review after doing so, so far this location is my favorite, especially with Hampton inn as they are usually pretty old buildings and need a serious upgrading.
If you’re visiting and don’t know the area well, here are some highlights from a local: Coffee lover- Starbucks is everywhere of course but if you want some local options, try Dutch bros if you like the sweet fun flavors (best to go when you’re not in a rush as the lines can be typically long but move quickly also), Drip Queen coffee in chapel hills mall across the street is unique, hand crafted with love (a family/veteran owned) that offers some other delectable options (I love the coffee in a cup chocolates!), this whole foods in the shopping center across from the mall has a coffee shop inside called Allegro which is good but sometimes it’s not open, they make good coffee though and if you’re going for some groceries it’s nice to stop by there for some caffeine or other drink, Ziggis drive through coffee has fun flavors and I love the zucchini bread slices, their burritos are good too with some nice salsa, Kangaroo coffee is one of my go to drive throughs as they offer local and organic coffee. If you’re willing to drive/bus or ride share my favorite coffee place is Switchback coffee and there are two locations not far from one another but I frequent the Hillside one. They get super busy inside during summer so finding a seat may be a challenge (either get there as soon as they open or maybe a few hrs before they close if you want to sit in) from the coffee to the food and service, it’s just a great experience.
Food some walking distance others driving/public transit: if you are a meat eater Saltgrass steak house may be your go to, I’ve never eaten there but they are super popular for grubbhub deliveries (I drive grubhub), Olive Garden, Urban Tandoor, Red Robin, On the Boarder, Viets, Asian Cookery just to name a few in the immediate area. If you like Sanwhiches: Schlotskys, Jersey Mikes, South Jersey Subs, Subway. There are also many fast food places such as McDonald’s, Wendy’s , Qdoba, Panera, Chipotle, chic fil a , del taco in walking distance, others like Taco Bell, Panda Express, you can have delivered or drive . There’s also another nice shopping center if you go up voyager and turn right onto Briargate that has Sephora, ulta, apple store, and a bunch of other nice shops. I love to just get coffee and walk around there in the early morning...
Read moreI couldn’t have asked for a better hotel experience! Seriously, if you need an affordable place to stay near the hub of downtown Colorado Springs, this is it. The rooms were well maintained and clean, and the free breakfast was awesome with different options to choose from each day.
However, the best part about this hotel is the staff! Every employee we interacted with was super friendly and eager to help if needed! HUGE shoutout to Adam at the front desk (give him a raise!) for being so accommodating and friendly! I chose my own room on the Hilton Honors app, but completely forgot I had requested a mountain view when I made the reservation. Adam called me on the way there and very politely informed me that I had chosen the wrong side (silly me) and that he’s going to get us all set up. That he did! We had our mountain view, king bed hotel room on the 4th floor and I seriously cannot thank him enough for going above and beyond for us.
The check-in process was super smooth, and we actually had electronic keys to our room via the Hilton Honors app, so my phone was my key (they do offer the standard key cards as well). I also thought it was fantastic that they have smart TVs in the rooms, so whenever you’re ready to wind down for the night you can log in to Netflix and put on a good movie or show!
We ended up having to leave a day earlier than we planned due to my fiancée being sick, and the lady at the front made the check-out process so effortless (I never got her name, I’m sorry!). She was wonderful as well!
Thank you all so much for making our stay nothing...
