Security guard harassment!
I’m a middle aged woman coming to one of a bagillion malls in my lifetime, at Christmastime no less. With my daughter. We’re a family with 10 kids and our oldest are serving in the Air Force and the Army. We are relatively peaceful group and stay out of trouble, and enjoy volunteering and serving others. To point out, we aren't a rebel rousing group of people. I’ve traveled to other countries and shopped as well. But, I’m from out of town so perhaps southerners do things differently.
Saw a family get in their car to leave. I back up my economy sized rental car and pull in front of a parked security car that was clearly sitting there for a while and wait for them to pull out. Shortly after, a Honda Pilot pulls into the lane I am going down and blocks this lane, waiting for someone else to move, blocking the car I was waiting on. Several cars pass in front of me, which also make it impossible for the car I’m waiting on to leave. A security guard comes around and insists I’m blocking traffic and need to leave (yet my exit is still blocked by the pilot and now his car and the other empty security car to the other side of me) litterally SCREAMING at me. Meanwhile the car I’m waiting on leaves and I pull up. Said security guard is still screaming at me. AFTER I’m parked. Now. I imagine he’s having a bad day at this point and has dealt with too much riff raff. I find myself wondering if he also insisted the car I passed moments before that was blocking an entire lane of 6 cars for quite some time to get parking received the same treatment. Or the truck with the boat attached and extended halfway into the lot, literally blocking off half the lane while parked.
I’m curious about this because in the north when parking is literally packed, waiting on a parking spot is not only done routinely but encouraged. Also, this wasn’t on a main strip blocking incoming or outgoing lanes, this was literally in the parking lot itself, and in front of an already stationary security car. And did I mention traffic was still moving?
Please get some support for your security guards do they don’t rage on your customers. While I appreciate security officers have a rough job at Christmastime, there may be more logical pursuits than yelling at customers who aren’t...
Read moreDear Harbison Mall-
On your day off drive to Richland Mall sometime. That's your future. To be used as a vacant indoor walking track with dim lighting by the elderly. You can avoid this fate by doing the following.
Get rid of your kiosks. When I have to speed up and walk faster while very obviously attempting to avoid eye contact with the Kiosk vendors, there is a problem. I was once accosted 3 times in 1 hour by the same girl at the Dead Sea Bath Salts kiosk. After this girl, who was 20 years younger than me blocked my path for the third time, grabbed my hand, and stroked it with lotion, I did the same to her and asked her out on a date. I think she got the message. I shouldn't have to do that however.
Deal with Build A Bears information gathering doctrine. When you purchase a bear, it literally takes several minutes to answer all the questions they have, all of course designed to acquire marketing data. Hey Build A Bear! Not my problem. I just wanted to buy a stuffed animal. Not help orient your North American marketing strategy for the next fiscal year. You don't need my telephone number, email, reasons for shopping, blood type, religious affiliation, etc. for me to hand you 20 dollars and walk out the door with a piece of polyester in my hands. The last time I purchased a bear at this location I was in a hurry so I simply handed the check out girl cash and started walking out. I thought she was going to loose her freakin mind! And basically acted like I was stealing since I wouldn't stand there and be interrogated like a cold war spy.
And if you are going to hire your own private police force, as has been mentioned elsewhere here, you need to do a little better. Stop harassing young people who hang out there. That's what teenagers do, which is your primary target demographic. They hang out. Just make sure that who ever you hire isn't the guy in high school who no one liked and now wants to use the power he has at an 8.00 an hour security job to address his personal self...
