Avola Lanza Hair Studio — Attraction in Columbus

I have never been one to leave anything but positive reviews, as I don't want to hurt any business, however, this experience was so terrible that it needs to be discussed. I came in Saturday June the 30th as a walk-in to get a gel polish removal and change. I was told they had time for me, and so, as the girl was removing my gel, it took longer than normal, but instead of allowing it to soak long enough for it to start coming off, she hastily began to scrape it off. Then, as she was painting the gel, she was doing it so quickly and sloppily that you could see the streak marks, and see through to my nail underneath. She failed to paint the sides of my nails near the skin, and the nails has been filed in such a way that they were completely jagged edges. I knew she had an appointment after me, so I didn't say anything. Then, she accidentally used a base coat instead of a top coat, and instead of just fixing those few nails, she just put the topcoat on over it, resulting in my nails not drying. As anyone who has had or worked with gel polish knows, it shouldn't be wet or sticky when you leave. But mine was, for about 45 minutes after. It stuck to literally everything I touched and so I called to see if my nails could be redone. I was scheduled for that next Monday.

On Monday I came in and met with the same girl. Again, she struggled to get my gel polish off, and scraped to get it off, but still couldn't get some of it off, so she buffed my nails until it came off, but unfortunately, buffed out my actual nail as well, until they got to the point where they were paper thin. She wanted to continue, but I told her to please stop and instead just put a nail strengthener and regular polish on, as my nails had been ruined. They had been buffed and filed down so low that they bent just by being touched, which was truly frustrating as I've always had very strong, thick nails. They also were all filed in different shapes and so truly, my nails looked like a disaster. At this point, I was too frustrated to say anything, as I didn't really think saying anything would help my situation since everything had already gone so wrong.

The only reason I'm giving two stars instead of the deserved zero is because of how kind the nail tech, as well as the reception staff were. The experience, however, can be counted as the worst manicure I've ever had, and truly I wish I had...

Firstly, my makeup was stunning. Anna nailed the eyeshadow, lip color, foundation, everything! She had an artistic eye for the best combination of these elements to fit my complexion, eye color, and facial structure. Anna is a talented stylist, but she is also very personable and passionate about what she does. This quality mattered to me in particular, because I myself am not well-versed in make-up and hair styling. But I felt relaxed and comfortable during my trials and on the day-of.

Secondly, my hair was lovely! Anna helped me think through all the details - what hair pins would look best with my look, where to pin my veil, day-of hair washing procedures - anything I wanted or needed to know. She even gave me ideas for styling my hair for engagement pictures and the rehearsal dinner, too. Anna was an incredible guide through "the unknown" of my "look" during our trials. I truly felt amazing on my wedding day, thanks to Anna and the Avola Lanza team! I would not have felt that amazing and comfortable with any other bridal team! Anna was a dream bridal hair artist! She was sweet, talented, and professional throughout the entire process. I was not sure exactly what type of hairstyle I wanted, and Anna took me through all of the options and really broke things down with me to make sure I made the right decision. We ended up trying multiple hairstyles at the trial! Regarding the day-of wedding, Anna was truly amazing - not only did I feel beautiful and confident in my hair, but she also serviced my Mom, my Mother in Law, and my Aunt - they all felt and looked beautiful. Anna is the best of the best, and I cannot recommend her enough.

Another awesome perk with booking with Anna/Avola is Ashley, who coordinates all of the wedding hair. Once I booked with Anna and the Avola Studio, Ashley made a hair schedule and called my venue independently and made sure that everything Anna would need would be at the venue when she arrived. It truly was a seamless process, and with Anna and Ashely being so self-sufficient, it really minimized my stress on wedding day, which means so much to a bride!
