So the hotel view was amazing!! Sixth floor, close to restaurants and shopping. Great view of riverfront/capital wheel. Service not so much!
I went here for a quick getaway with my kids. Check in was easy and quick but the attendant didn’t tell me how to access the amenities, only how to get to my room. I had to find out where the pool was from another hotel guest. There’s no brochures/books/maps in the room.
Once I found the pool, the kids had a great time. It was really warm in that room. Pool only goes 4’6” perfect for my kids. The rent many towels available or lifeguard or someone to assist with towels.
After we made our way to the pool, I used the app to request more towels. The gentleman came promptly BUT he didn’t knock. We were in the middle of changing and he just used his key to come in. When he realized we were in the room he backed out and said housekeeping. I tried to let that slide.
Later he evening I used the app again to request additional pillows and a blanket. (Normally there’s extra in the closet). That wasn’t the case. I placed my request in the app at exactly 11:00 PM. It showed up as in process. So I patiently wait. At 12:34 AM I inquire through the app asking for an estimated time of when I should expect the blanket and pillows as my kids were cold(and yes I did cut down the air). To my inquiry I got a generic response, hello and thank you for connecting we will respond shortly. Mind you it’s already been 1 hour and half later. Another 6 minutes later (12:40 AM), I get a message through the app saying they apologize for the delay and thank you for my patience , they were assisting other customers. So I waited, and waited some more. At around 1:00 AM I called and asked the attendant. They told me they would be up right away. So again, I’m trying to be patient. Still nothing. So inquire again through the at 1:39 AM, Asking for an update and I mentioned in the message that I called. No response through the app. Well, at around 1:55AM, an attendant shows up. With pillows(no pillowcase and blankets(without the duvet cover. I asked did he have pillow cases or duvet covers, he said the extras don’t come like that. I was shocked. I declined the pillows but took the blanket. Nearly 3 hours!!! Was not what I expected. For what I paid to stay there the service was disappointing. Hopefully it was just an off day and service will be better for other guests. Good luck!! I don’t know that I’d go back there or recommend it...
Read moreFirst, it's important to know I used Priceline to book this room just ten days prior to arriving and was not a "rack rate" customer. That said, I was a little taken back by my room pass cover marked clearly with "Priceline" on it. I was there for seven days and damn, that's an investment that should not matter a bit if I booked it on Priceline or paid the rack rate. I prepaid almost $1,000 for this stay, that's serious money in any economy.
When you book on Priceline, you get a street facing room, and you pay for Internet by the day, despite your longer stay. That doesn't feel right.
Upon arrival I immediately noticed that the prior guest had left their toe nail clippings all over the floor, and their dark hair all over the bed and bathroom. My hair, what little has not abandoned ship, is white. This is where I saw the best side of the front desk staff. I went to the them and asked to vacuum the room while I went around the corner to CVS. I was gone for twenty minutes and when I returned, you could have done surgery in that room it was so clean.
Every interaction with this front desk crew was similar. They are responsive, professional, polished and anticipating your needs. The venue is spectacular and this staff is at par with the surroundings.
The room service menu is similar to most Westins, but the staff is similar to the front desk team. Your food comes hot. Every nuance I asked for was met flawlessly, from asking for honey with my muffin to two forks to share a snack with a colleague. The food itself, wonderful.
I live in the desert and on the west coast. We have air-conditioning. The rooms in this Westin do not; they use a chiller. That's probably OK most of the spring and summer, but when the humidity outside was 50-75% and the temperatures over 90, this room could not be kept cool or comfortable and it was tough to sleep. Everything from your clothes to your papers wilt. I was actually thrilled to head over to the Gaylord Conference Center and be in air-conditioning as much as I could.
So again, the staff and venue are unbeatable. The initial room cleanliness I believe was an anomaly. The moist rooms make it something to think twice about depending on humidity and OAT. I would suggest to the Westin team to not differentiate on room rate, and be sure not to point it out. If you are going to put some rooms on Priceline, buck up and give them a great room. They'll probably come back and that's really your...
Read moreWhen I checked in my room was still dirty the bed was made but you could tell someone had been laying on it and the floor had dog food on it. My thermostat was broken and will not change off the cooling mode so my room was consistently cold at 62 degrees. I call front desk and they had maintenance come up, he was able to change it to heat and set the temperature at 75 but after 30mins it just turned off and the room was only at 67degrees and never turned back on. Since it was my last night there and I had been at a conference for 12 hrs a day since Monday, I didn’t bother calling front desk again because I needed sleep. I did let them know upon my checkout and they waived the cost of my 1 night I order room service, which was also a nightmare to even get room service.
Room service experience: I only needed to use room service once, I had gotten back to the hotel at 10:30pm and looked everywhere for my room service menu that was not in my room. I decided to just go down stairs at 10:40pm to just order my food to then be told the kitchen staff was gone for the night. I don’t know the area and being a female in an unfamiliar place I wasn’t going to go walk up and down the streets that late at night and it was also 30 degrees outside. So I went back to my room called the front desk to complain, the woman said well I can bring you a directory of pizza places in the area. I don’t care for pizza and won’t eat She then put me on hold and a gentleman came on and said I can bring you the room service menu, I asked what good is that if it’s already closed?? He said there was a late night menu I could order from. I agreed and it was sent up. The menu is very limited to unhealthy foods and I ended up ordering the roasted turkey BLT and I don’t eat pork so I asked for it without pork. I also asked for an ice tea and was told they don’t have any available on the late night menu they only have soft drinks. I asked for water and was told, “I’ll see what I can do.” I honestly thought he was referring to the ice tea. About 30 mins after at 12:30am my food arrives with the sandwich I order with bacon, a Sierra Mist soda, strawberry cheesecake cake, and a glass of water with no ice. By this time I was to tired to even try to call front desk to complain. I just removed the bacon from my sandwich and ate it. I thought that maybe the cheesecake and Sierra Mist was “on the house” but I was...
