On the Iowa side of the Missouri River is one of Council Bluffs newest creations. Built on the location of the historic Dreamland Park now boasts a wonderful place for families to attend events throughout the year. A great place to visit as the pedestrian bridge connects downtown Nebraska to Iowa, allowing bicyclists joggers and those wanting to take a stroll along the river. The one place where people of all kinds can share the simple or not so simple hobbies. With convention rooms and outdoor seating there is a well maintained field with lighting through out the night provided. Clean restrooms and a great place to let your pets and children run out any energy they have. A large sand box attraction for everyone to play in if desired. As well as benches along the shore to comfortably relax as you fish or just take in the view of Nebraskas historic downtown skyline. I suggest a blanket and a picnic basket with a bottle of wine any time through out the day or Frisbee and fishing poles. There is always the chance to see the Sandhill cranes and white tail deer wonder on to the field with you since the nature reserve is incorporated with the modern park. Read moreIt's always fun at "The Walking Bridge". You can meet a lot of interesting people. We almost always see deer while we are here as well. Children and adults love jumping back and forth between Iowa and Nebraska. This is a nice place for families and for bringing your dog. Everyone I saw picked up after their dog too. So no worries about stepping in any poo. The playground is fun for younger children. My 3 & 2 year old grandchildren have a blast playing on the pelican. They have plenty of benches to sit on and umbrellas and trees for shade. It's nice to walk around the square, check out the river and spend a few hours outside. Read moreIt is getting better all the time. Plenty of parking and easy to get to. The expansive green space is large and inviting. The annual summer Memorial Day time frame is popular.
There is a new visitor center planned and under construction as of this writing.Projected completion is Fall 2017. There will be a water sculpture feature and more family-friendly events will be happening there's. It is situated at the end of the trail of the Bob Kerrey Pedestrian Bridge.
