I had to talk the family into a couple hours on the riverfront before heading back to Michigan on the last leg of our Western journey. We had a fabulous time at this little museum. The kids and even Mom and Dad played dress up in the old timey clothes. We got to see a few antiquities picked up on the great journey, and visit the Parks store. They had tokens that had the Lewis and Clark emblem on them for $1 a piece. So the kids got a souvenir without breaking the bank.
Even though we had our National Park Pass we didn't need it as the museum is Free!! We didn't watch the movie as had limited time, but I would encourage it.
Also free in the area is the Bob Kerrey Bridge where if you take a picture of yourself or family on the bridge you can redeem a sticker(good for the car or camper) at the Omaha Visitor's Center. They also give out free (not super sturdy backpacks with buttons you can collect at various tourist spots around Omaha. My kiddos got the backpacks and their Bob Kerrey Bridge stickers and buttons. That was really cool! And free! The Riverwalk was beautiful and the Discovery Park is IMO the most fun playground in the USA. Water fun, huge climbing towers, swings everywhere for kids and grownups. After that stop by the statue of Chef Boyardee! Us old people appreciate it! A fun, fabulous, free morning in Omaha. This museum was lovely. Enough to keep the kid's interest, and short enough to keep them from being bored. They left wanting to come back! The rangers were both fun...
Read moreOne stop on our tour of the Midwest was Nebraska and while in Omaha another museum was on this agenda. This museum is small yet packs a powerful informative historical punch as it relates to Lewis & Clark hence the name. You can view the museum and gift shop before or after you take a walk across the pedestrian from Nebraska to Iowa as the Missouri River flows underneath. The view from the bridge is nice and there is a good view of downtown Omaha. Before beginning your walk across the bridge don’t forget to scan the bar at the beginning of the bridge for an...
Read moreThis was so much fun! They have so much information and so much to do. You can play with animal tracks, dress up as Lewis & Clark, earn a Junior Ranger pin, play on the statues outside, and walk the pedestrian bridge. We spent much more time there than I expected.
The rangers were all very nice to us. Very knowledgeable and willing to help in any way they can. My only complaint is that a pin we bought in the gift shop had a crooked back, so make sure you check pins before you buy them if this matters to you.
Overall, a great experience. We will...
