Baltimore street is the beautiful core of downtown. I saw it pre construction when it was a pedestrian mall.
Pros:
Worth a walk through for the architecture alone. Row after row of 1890s-1920s buildings.
Lots of variety in the downtown area as well. Restaurants, coffee, ice cream, antiquing, book shops, and a music store.
Check out Uncle Jack's, Coney Island famous wieners (lol), and the Book Center (say hi to the cats).
Cons:
The whole street is currently under pretty disruptive construction. Last I heard they're changing it to a road vs a pedestrian mall.
Based on the city plans, I thought construction was supposed to be complete. Looks like construction is running over like construction always does.
Far too many empty buildings. It hasn't turned into blight yet, but empty buildings always run the risk of vandalism, arson, and the like. Hopefully some small businesses can pop up to add some more life to the downtown.
It looks like some of the notable historic buildings are currently for sale. That can be dangerous. All it takes is some developer looking for a quick buck to destroy 200 years of history and put a black eye on the historic nature...

I am old school and believe in quality of an item will soften the price of it. I could stay in LaVale and get better service and food. I am sure a history would love the buildings and reminisce of yesteryear but that would be it. I have lived here all my life and can't understand the draw...
