Although I had a lot of fun studying here and enjoying my time here studying, I was very disappointed my last time here, understanding this is a good place for teens to study and have a good time, yes this is a really nice place but as I was roaming around in my free time in search for books, I was met with mutiple juvinile delinquents who has done nothing but fat shame me and tell me how I was extremely fat, this has done so much harm to me, the fact that im writing this review is not blaming the library for these actions but for the fact that this encouter may happen to others in the same community or different siuations like people who may be anarexic or obese due to medical conditions, addtionitionally I was met with this very rude and unpeaceful staff that was threatening to kick me out, I understand that I was moving in quicker speeds but without anu request and asking what was going on he quickly spread false affermations regarding what actually happened, at the time a teenager I knew has stolen my phone and I really needed to make a phone call so I raised my speed to attempt to get my phone, this horrible and unpleasent encouter here at the cupertino library has made my day even worse then it already is and I will never be visiting this library of rudeness and annoying teenagers even again, this has worsened my traumas both physicially and mentally, this is a horrible experience not only for me but probably also for others if this gets repeated or seen by others. to summarize I encountered an unpeaceful staff member. Rather than seeking context or understanding, they hastily threatened to kick me out. Yes, I was moving with urgency, but it was because a teenager had stolen my phone. Desperation fueled my actions—I needed to make a crucial phone call. Yet, the staff member’s false accusations only exacerbated my anxiety. Their lack of empathy and willingness to listen further compounded my emotional turmoil. As I left the Cupertino library that day, my heart weighed heavy. The encounter had worsened my existing traumas—both physical and mental. I wondered how many others had faced similar mistreatment within these walls. Perhaps someone struggling with anorexia or obesity due to medical conditions had also felt the sting of judgment. The library, meant to be a safe haven, had become a battleground of rudeness and insensitivity. While I don’t blame the library itself for the actions of individuals, I implore all of us to foster compassion and understanding. Let us recognize that our words and actions have consequences, affecting others in ways we may never fully comprehend. As I write this, I hope that sharing my experience will raise awareness and prevent such encounters from repeating.
May libraries remain places of refuge, where kindness prevails, and where every visitor feels respected and valued. and may someone actually fix this place because it is not where it once was...
Read moreI like this library a lot and bring my kids to it almost every week. However, I had a rather unpleasant encounter with a highly unfriendly librarian today. While browsing through the children's section, I came across several 'read-with-me' bags containing books on a shelf. Opting for one of those bags, I proceeded to check it out along with my other selections at the self-checkout station. However, an error message popped up for one of the books, prompting me to seek assistance at the front desk. Unfortunately, the librarian I encountered displayed a consistently rude demeanor. From the outset, she incessantly complained about my misplacing of the library card which make it hard for her to scan the card, demonstrating impatience throughout the entire process without even uttering a simple "please." After confirming that the book had no issues, I prepared to leave with my children. To my dismay, as we approached the exit, the alarm sounded. Treating me as if I were a thief, the librarian demanded that I empty the contents of my bag. Eventually, she realized that the alarm had been triggered by the 'read-with-me' bag I had previously selected. She then insisted that I should have used the front desk service to check out that bag, implying that it was common knowledge for everyone except me. However, I failed to find any instructions regarding front desk checkout either on the bag itself or on the shelf where the bags were placed. Regardless, she proceeded to recheck the bag for me. Even after she completed the checkout process, I passed through the exit once again, only to have the alarm go off once more. Frustrated, the librarian impatiently instructed me to "just go with the bag." Finally, I left with the bag in hand. Clearly, the alarm had nothing to do with my failure to check it out at the front desk with her, and she had not mentioned the necessity of checking the bag with her when I sought confirmation for the book earlier. Throughout the entire ordeal, she incessantly reprimanded me in front of my children, making us feel like criminals under inspection, without extending any apologies for the inconvenience caused. It was an incredibly unpleasant experience, and I genuinely hope that this staff member does not treat others in the same manner in the future. While I understand that mistakes can occur, such rude behavior and the tendency to shift blame onto others are highly...
Read moreI only be there once since I usually go to Saratoga lib and Central Park one. I guess I will never be there. For Teacher Appreciation Week, another parent and I went to the Cupertino Library to wrap gifts for our children's teachers. We chose the library as a quiet space to work, thinking it would be an appropriate place for this kind of volunteer activity. However, we were very disappointed by the unwelcoming attitude of the library staff. As soon as we started wrapping the gifts, a staff member rudely told us that the library space is only for student use, and we were not allowed to do any kind of handicraft or gift wrapping there. She said we were making a "mess" and instructed us to take our materials outside. As parent volunteers contributing our time for a good cause to appreciate our children's teachers, we felt embarrassed and disrespected by this treatment. The library is a public space that should accommodate reasonable activities by community members, especially when not disrupting others. While we understand the need to keep the library clean and maintain its primary purpose as a study space, there was no need for such a dismissive and unwelcoming attitude toward parents voluntarily working on a small project. A simple reminder about library policies could have been given politely. I hope the library staff will receive better training on communicating respectfully with patrons, and recognizing small volunteer activities that benefit the community. Libraries should be a welcoming...
