Bitter + Sweet used to be a place I recommended anyone visiting the South Bay. I used to go daily to grab a cup of Secret Breakfast and chat with the Asian lady owner (long time ago). I'm a bit sad that the workers now are unfriendly / borderline rude.
I went to get a cup of the usual velvet latte and a breakfast and sat at the counter. I was told by the worker that I can't sit there. Literally just "you can't sit there" without looking at me. Ok... awkward silence followed by the sound of the chair.
I'm the only one waiting for my drink and she calls out "velvet latte!" I wasn't sure if it was even mine because it sounded like she was calling out to someone else.
The cup looked like it wasn't washed. There were dried up spots on the cup's rim.
When I was done, I went to go put away my cup/dish. The worker was using the counter I was told I couldn't sit at to be on her phone. No "thanks" or "have a good day" or anything.
What happened to this place?
Also the ambiance is a bit off with the arcade machines. The machines are either turned off or just has no sound. It's like they aren't sure whether they want the arcades or are annoyed by people using them. Space would be better utilized without them.
Call before you arrive because they seem to also be pretty liberal with their hours. When I arrived, there was a sign on the window that said they are closing early that day.
I'm still giving them 2 stars because their drinks are good.
I recommend going to Voyager Craft Coffee for a happier environment with better staff / drinks to...
Read moreI liked this place for the taro matcha. I really tried to give it many chances. However the owner is just rude. His behavior is reminiscent of the one of my teenage daughter's - the constant eye rolling, awkward starting and long silence, snarky comments you name it! It is all there!
It all started when I asked to add a bit of oatmilk to my coffee, since I have digestive issues and can't drink black coffee straight. He refused, saying that (and I quote) "he doesn't ALLOWED anything added to his coffee". Then when I still tried to ask for a bit of milk on the side, he said that he will "watch me and make sure I am not adding it to my drink". My friend that was shocked at this treatment said that she wants some oatmilk for her on the side then and he said "I will watch both of you, and if I see you give her the oatmilk, I will ask you both to leave". This was completely unprofessional and weird. I was coming back for the taro matchas regardless, because it is close to my place and every time the treatment was rude and unwelcoming.
The last straw was today - I collected rewards for a free drink from buying a $9 taro matcha many times. I tried to redeem it for a free matcha, and the owner said (in a rude tone) that I can only redeem it for a $3.5 worth house coffee.
Anyway, never coming back to this place
EDIT - reading the other reviews, the owner actually used the F word on one of the customers, so I guess I need to consider myself lucky that he didn't use it...
