I came in here to sell my grandpas old vintage records and books that are worth a lot . The records were in very good condition. The boxes for them may have not Been in that quite of a good condition But I know for a fact they worked indefinitely , Because I had single opened every box and the records still had It’s plastic and were in a amazing condition. I got there parked in the Front went to the middle of the information desk. The girl with the red hair was very rude. Her name started with a “J” She told me to park in the back when I had already called her twice and was told her by her that I had to go through the front doors to check in the information desk and soon as I got there I was redirected to me to head to the back then she quoted that I will have someone helped me Bring the vintage books and records if I needed the help. I continue to go to the back part of the store and got off and was welcome by more of a Hispanic young lady. That was very kind. The First guy came out to help me. Very nice guy. The second guy came out and by his appearance I knew something was off. I greeted him, and he was very rude. He was a tall bald guy, green eye man that had kind of a bit of a attitude because I am assuming he was told to come outside and help out with my boxes. In disbelief He just stood there and wouldn’t help me unload the boxes of vintage books I had. He continued to tell my wife to get back even When she Wasn’t Even helping With The boxes it sucks to say I was shocked and in disbelief, Even being a handicap person I felt i was totally disrespected in no other way I’ve ever had in my life! I had over 10 boxes, full of books, and classic Records. My grandpa served in the US military, and was a Dallas Police, Chief , of Dallas in the year 1985 -1988 , retired my grandpa , Just this year he passed away and the last moments that I had with him in his deathbed were, please put my classic records in good use for people to enjoy the classic feeling that I once had when I was young. All this stuff meant a lot to me, but I had not no choice to take their offer. At first the same bald guy said to me and offered me $5 dollars for 10 boxes of vintage books and records I understand This is a selling book location, not a pawnshop, so I was not gonna argue the price. He then continued saying “We can put all the stuff back in their boxes And you can Take everything Back if You Want” Shocked and disbelief, how this person was very rude, eager and at some point, judging my physical appearance, I felt very disrespected, and I thought to myself. Why am I gonna take these books back. I went out my way and out my day to most likely make a couple bucks, and donate the rest. I responded I said “I’m not going to take the records and Books back because I have no use for them” This experience hurt my heart and to let these things go thinking of my grandpa and his special moments he had with these items was very hard I even continue to ask him if some of the products We’re going to be placed at least for sale Even if I took the $5 . He continue to talk down on the vintage items and saying “no I will most likely have to recycle everything that you just brought me “ “ we’re not gonna make a single dime “ and it’s not worth anything” I went out my way today. Got the day off from my job , Just for someone that probably doesn’t like their job or my physical appearance to ruin it. I left out of here Desperately shedding in tears, All my plastic containers were just thrown back at me Like if it was a piece of crap Sad and disappointed. I didn’t just come asking for a lot of money, but for the experience, and for the thoughtfulness of me, donating these vintage items for people to have an amazing time Just like my grandpa did. The way they handle this situation today and the customer service makes me feel that I will never set foot inside this store ever again DUE TO THAT MAN! I hope this gets resolved and management takes this review. Seriously on how they handle...
Read moreOur family loves Half Price Books, especially the larger one on E. NW Highway in Dallas. We live approximately 2.5 hours away so we're unable to shop there often. The prices are minimal with the majority of books being in excellent condition. The staff has always been friendly & accomodating. One drawback was when we took our young teen granddaughter to sell back some books she had read (bought new) & chose not to keep as she does numerous books & series. I don't recall the series' name but she was given less than $2 for the 4 or 5 book series set. She received less than $1 combined for 2 additional books. I felt she should've received at least $5 for all of the books that were in excellent condition. I chose not to take away a star after reading that although worth millions, Half Price Books is a family owned business & supports many political beliefs held by our family. We take pride in shopping at family owned businesses especially the smaller businesses over large corporations/big box stores. If documentation is correct, I like that Half Price Books donates books to schools & non-profit organizations as well as giving librarians & teachers discounts. It's well known that the majority of governments throughout the US ignore public education & non-profit organizations as well as ending such freedoms as which books can & can't be allowed in schools & libraries. Together we must continue the struggle until all freedoms are restored! Thank you Half Price Books for rhe...
Read moreThe original Half Price Books in Dallas isn’t just a bookstore; it’s a piece of history and a cornerstone of my own life as a book lover. Knowing this was the very first location, the birthplace of the Half Price Books legacy, makes every visit feel extra special.
When I was young, I would save up my weekly allowance and head to Half Price Books, eager to see how far my few dollars could stretch in their treasure-filled aisles. It was my happy place, where I could spend hours discovering stories I didn’t even know I needed. Those trips sparked a lifelong love of reading that has only deepened over the years.
Now, as a college student, I still find myself returning to Half Price Books, not just for textbooks but for personal reads that feed my soul. There’s nothing like the thrill of finding an old favorite or uncovering a new gem at a fraction of the price. The original Dallas store holds all that magic, combined with the sense of history that makes it truly unique.
The staff is always friendly and knowledgeable, and the store itself is a haven for anyone who loves books. From the nostalgic smell of well-loved pages to the incredible variety of genres and hidden treasures, it’s a place I could never outgrow.
