The West Volusia Historical Society is a wonderful place that is preserving the history of DeLand and other local cities or towns. Currently they are open exclusively for research so I would recommend that you contact them first before visiting. Their executive director is extremely kind and helpful.

Vernette gave us a wonderful tour of the house that is filled with antiques and beautiful furniture and kitchen appliances from the time. She described the home of Henry A. Deland and life in the 1850's so well that I felt like I was taken back to that time when Deland was a small town. The fee for the tour is $5 and is well worth the price.
