Oudom Thai is a very disappointing restaurant. After reading the reviews I expected good food and service but I was not happy with this place. My friends and I were seated right away at a table in the back of the small restaurant. After about 10 minutes a waitress comes over to take our drink order. Then returns with the drinks and takes our dinner order. She was very confused during the order and when I tried to clarify that I was sharing an order with my friend she interrupted and said “he already told me that”. This was just the beginning of our problems. The restaurant had about 6 waitresses, which should’ve been plenty for its size but it was not. She never came over to our table and after over a half hour of waiting for our food we had to ask another waitress to check on it for us. We didn’t end up getting our food for close to an hour and instead of apologizing for the delay our waitress told us it was because of a larger group. As soon as I saw the plate of Pad Thai my friend and I ordered I knew it wasn’t good. The noodles were burnt and barely warm at all. My friend got our waitresses attention and told her it was not good and we wanted to send it back. She took the food and then tried to give the spoon from the plate back to us. When my friend said he didn’t want the spoon back she turned around and said “you are being rude!” Maybe it’s just my opinion but a waitress should never ever call a customer rude. After this we decided we wanted to leave. Our waitress sent another waitress over, not a manager, who inquired about what was going on. We began to tell her what happened and she proceeded to call me “rude” when I had said very little to her. Finally we got up and left as they were beginning to yell at us and act like we were the problem. As we were leaving we saw them bringing out a new plate of Pad Thai…interesting how it only took five minutes for the second one to come out. It is amazing how many people eat in this place considering the bad service and lack of professionalism. I am not one to write many reviews, but I had to let people know about this before they get stuck in a similar situation. I do not recommend dining...
Read moreI never write reviews but unfortunately my dinner experience demanded one. I’ve lived in Deland for 20 years. I’ve eaten at Oudums many many times. The food is excellent, which explains the popularity. However, the service really needs to be acknowledged as a known issue. Don’t get me wrong, I’ve had great service a handful of times but the majority of the time the service is less than par. The food is super great so it always brings me back. Tonight’s service, however, was TERRIBLE! A group of my friends joined me for a friends birthday dinner. She requested Sushi so I suggested Oudums as their food is great. She wanted Amuras in Lake Mary but I assured her Oudums was just as good if not better. The food did not disappoint. It never does. However our server was one of the worst experiences I’ve encountered. We waited for 15min for him to acknowledge our table. We then waited at least 15-20 min to get his attention anytime we needed anything... to order our dinner, request a drink refill, or clear our plates. It was busy but the restaurant was appropriately staffed. Our table was so full of appetizer plates he couldn’t fit dinner plates when they arrived. He didn’t even move or try to clear them. I had to pile them in front of him and then still request them to be taken. I asked for a lighter to light my friends bday candles and he literally walked away and ignored me as I asked (fully aware I was making a request) My friend had another engagement to attend and was now running late because of the super long wait for everything. I asked for a to go bag and our check and he went to another table.. served them.. then went and filled tea pitchers. He finally came back with the check and I asked for a bag again. I requested he come back soon as my friend had to leave and was already late and he told me.. “oh yeah, well I’m waiting on your cash first” Not sure what that meant? Was he suggesting I was going to eat and dash? Gross. Terrible terrible terrible experience. To bad as it was all 3 of my friends first experience at Oudums.. and definitely...
Read moreUpdate 2025- two people $76 before tip non refillable drinks-- We went in after about 6 months of not going- mostly a schedule issue on our part. But they remodeled the place and really opened up the seating area but now it looks bare. Moved the counter to the back. The cieling is still stained from leaks. Warm canned sodas are non refillable. I used the cup of ice she brought as I'm diabetic and therefore drink diet coke, but pouring in warm soda melted the ice and watered it way down. So the choice is warm or watered down...just drink the free tap water and save your money. We ordered double orders of chicken sate and gyoza appetizers and 1 sushi roll. $76 before tip. And it wasnt as good. The gyoza had a burnt pan taste- they weren't burnt but they tasted like something in the pan with them was. Sauces seemed more watery. More tarte than I remember or sour almost. More vinegar maybe? The cucumbers were actually thai cucumber salad which was good until I got hit with unexpected spice with no drink to wash it down. Bought a second warm can of soda...They say tastes change- maybe its me but it was not good like it used to be. And the male server was bored. Its too bad. It used to be a favorite. Don't think I'll be back.
From 2020-2021 Bring your patience and dont come starving. I absolutely love this place, but since the pandemic, I guess they can't get people to work. Every other time I try to go, they're closed or suddenly to go only. The wait is pretty long because they make the food after you order it-- part of why its so good, right? Being short staffed, I worry they wont be able to keep going. Tons of people seem to be ordering pickup, which is not really the business model they are set up for, and makes the lead time on those orders about an hour for sushi and 30 minutes for hot food. It makes it awkward, timing wise, if your order has a bit of both. The building doesn't allow for a large pickup area. I hope they hang in there because this actually is my absolute favorite...
