GO AT YOUR OWN RISK! My hair was ruined at Aveda. Appointment date: Sept 23, 2024. The goal: cutting off split ends and an all-over color to get back to something natural. We agreed on around 2 inches. I’d seen the good reviews, I knew that there’s always a risk when it comes to students - but I figured I wasn’t asking for anything too crazy. A trim, a darker color. Instead I wound up with 5+ inches hacked off, hair that was almost box dye black, splotchy color, and layers with obvious holes in them. I wish I could say that it’s just hair, but I cried for DAYS. I’d talked to my stylist about how I’d lost a lot of hair due to grief and was trying to be careful while growing out/taking care of what was left. I had a whole conversation with her *and* the instructor about my natural color that I was aiming for, and how we knew for a fact that my natural hair wasn’t black and how black would be too dark - and yet I wound up with hair that looked so dark and weirdly harsh that it didn’t look like real hair anymore. Aveda gave me two options after I called in to complain: get a second appointment and have another student try to fix it, or get a refund but be banned from using Aveda services again. If this had been a student with zero oversight, I might have been willing to give Aveda another shot. What I can’t fathom is how an INSTRUCTOR signed off of this cut, these layers, this coloring, and even deemed it well-done in person. I wound up opting to take the refund and have a completely different salon salvage what they could, which meant losing even more length and processing my hair even more. I imagine it’ll take at least a year and a half to get my length back, and 3-4 years to fully grow out the hair that was colored. If you do still decide to go here for services, don’t be afraid to listen to your spidey senses and leave if you feel like something is off. I decided to trust the instructors here to keep an eye on their students, and every time I look in the mirror I’m reminded that I was wrong.

**photos are from visit with Abby W.** I'm editing my review because you can only leave 1 Google review but I certainly wanted to give a shoutout to Abby W. and the front desk team (my visit was today, July 26, 2022)! It was a little busy when I first checked in and it turns out that I wasn't initially checked in to the system. I ended up waiting about 25 minutes past my appointment time. When I followed up at the front desk, they were very apologetic and made it right with me. I absolutely commend them on their guest recovery! (Thank you!!!!) Abby W. took care of my balayage and haircut and I loved my time with her. She did a great job explaining every single step and educating me about the products and process. Her shoulder and scalp massages were so relaxing, too! I also love how she wrapped the towel around my head--nice touch & no drips when walking back to her station. Overall, the managers and educators must be doing a great job, as it trickles down to the team. Thanks again, I will be back! ---------below review is from 5 months ago--- The front desk staff and instructors were nice. Katie S. did my all-over color and haircut. She did a wonderful job and it was so great getting to know her, truly inspiring. You go, girl!

I love getting my haircuts and massages here! I've been coming here every 2-3 months since 2018 with consistently positive experiences. My last several haircuts have been with Ivette, who is kind, considerate, and already so competent. I'll selfishly be sad when she graduates! I tell anyone who is nervous about having students cut their hair that it's very unlikely that you would leave with something you don't like. The educators check in on the appointment at three different stages, including between the cut and style to make sure there are no issues and to make sure you're happy with it. I've always been satisfied, but I highly recommend being vocal if you're not — they give you lots of opportunities to speak up and be heard, and if the student can't fix it, the educator will step in. Pro tip: If you're still nervous despite my previous paragraph, try booking at least a few weeks ahead of time. This will increase your chances of being with a more advanced student, who may provide faster and more confident cut. Last-minute bookings tend to be with newer students (but they'll still be great!).

I was so excited to start cosmo school until this place made me loose my passion for it. they’re soo nice before you give away $24,000 then your first day your instantly treated with disrespect. Honestly robert is the only teacher there who actually cares for the students his craft and making the kids succeed. all the other teachers are there r watch you fail. one teacher said my blonde toner formula was incorrect and he changed it so the girl left neon purple. chelsey woukd always come up to my with a client and say “you’re doing that all wrong” discouraging me and scaring my clients. one client lost there earring not my fault and the front desk made me get on my hands and knees to look for a earring and then go threw the trash can and bin full of hair. One teacher never even tought us anything… he’d leave the classroom for hours. he would say be back at 1 for lunch but wouldn’t be back til 2. my grandma died and I couldn’t say my final goodbyes cus if i missed another hour i was gonna be dropped from the program. Even when i got into a car accident and was concussed they don’t care you’re expected to make your hours up on your own time. you’re expected to be there 24 seven even if you were sick even if you have a family emergency, but the person in charge of putting your hours in An office 2 to 3 times a month. and if you ask jhon for help or ask her a question, she’s just gonna tell you let me reach out to someone higher than me and I’ll let you know in the next few days. also you say this aveda slogan and you body tap your peers it’s really weird. and honestly everyone in my class failed there written at least once for the state board but my friends at cheaper schools passed first try. so if you are thinking about going to school here save your self the mental and go somewhere cheaper it’s the same thing just more support...

I had the pleasure of meeting Catlin at the Aveda Institute of Denver, and she truly left a lasting impression. Her warmth, professionalism, and genuine kindness stood out immediately. She took the time to connect in a way that felt sincere and thoughtful, and her positive energy was absolutely contagious.

Catlin has a natural ability to make others feel seen and valued. She listens with care, communicates with grace, and brings a sense of calm confidence to every interaction. It’s clear she’s passionate about what she does, and that passion translates into an experience that’s both uplifting and memorable.

The Aveda Institute is lucky to have someone like Catlin—she’s a shining example of excellence and heart combined. I’m so grateful our paths crossed.

Shining a Light on Robert – Aveda Institute Denver As a longtime client of the Aveda Institute Denver, I’ve had the joy of seeing many students grow—but Robert stands out as an exceptional educator. His calm, professional presence and genuine passion for teaching make a lasting impression. You can see the confidence he instills in his students—it shows in their work and their attitude.

Robert doesn’t just teach technique—he teaches heart, integrity, and artistry. I’m truly grateful for the excellence he brings to the Institute and the future professionals he inspires every day.
