GO AT YOUR OWN RISK! My hair was ruined at Aveda. Appointment date: Sept 23, 2024.
The goal: cutting off split ends and an all-over color to get back to something natural. We agreed on around 2 inches.
I’d seen the good reviews, I knew that there’s always a risk when it comes to students - but I figured I wasn’t asking for anything too crazy. A trim, a darker color. Instead I wound up with 5+ inches hacked off, hair that was almost box dye black, splotchy color, and layers with obvious holes in them.
I wish I could say that it’s just hair, but I cried for DAYS. I’d talked to my stylist about how I’d lost a lot of hair due to grief and was trying to be careful while growing out/taking care of what was left. I had a whole conversation with her and the instructor about my natural color that I was aiming for, and how we knew for a fact that my natural hair wasn’t black and how black would be too dark - and yet I wound up with hair that looked so dark and weirdly harsh that it didn’t look like real hair anymore.
Aveda gave me two options after I called in to complain: get a second appointment and have another student try to fix it, or get a refund but be banned from using Aveda services again.
If this had been a student with zero oversight, I might have been willing to give Aveda another shot. What I can’t fathom is how an INSTRUCTOR signed off of this cut, these layers, this coloring, and even deemed it well-done in person. I wound up opting to take the refund and have a completely different salon salvage what they could, which meant losing even more length and processing my hair even more. I imagine it’ll take at least a year and a half to get my length back, and 3-4 years to fully grow out the hair that was colored.
If you do still decide to go here for services, don’t be afraid to listen to your spidey senses and leave if you feel like something is off. I decided to trust the instructors here to keep an eye on their students, and every time I look in the mirror I’m reminded that...
Read moreI was so excited to start cosmo school until this place made me loose my passion for it. they’re soo nice before you give away $24,000 then your first day your instantly treated with disrespect. Honestly robert is the only teacher there who actually cares for the students his craft and making the kids succeed. all the other teachers are there r watch you fail. one teacher said my blonde toner formula was incorrect and he changed it so the girl left neon purple. chelsey woukd always come up to my with a client and say “you’re doing that all wrong” discouraging me and scaring my clients. one client lost there earring not my fault and the front desk made me get on my hands and knees to look for a earring and then go threw the trash can and bin full of hair. One teacher never even tought us anything… he’d leave the classroom for hours. he would say be back at 1 for lunch but wouldn’t be back til 2. my grandma died and I couldn’t say my final goodbyes cus if i missed another hour i was gonna be dropped from the program. Even when i got into a car accident and was concussed they don’t care you’re expected to make your hours up on your own time. you’re expected to be there 24 seven even if you were sick even if you have a family emergency, but the person in charge of putting your hours in An office 2 to 3 times a month. and if you ask jhon for help or ask her a question, she’s just gonna tell you let me reach out to someone higher than me and I’ll let you know in the next few days. also you say this aveda slogan and you body tap your peers it’s really weird. and honestly everyone in my class failed there written at least once for the state board but my friends at cheaper schools passed first try. so if you are thinking about going to school here save your self the mental and go somewhere cheaper it’s the same thing just more support...
