The 15 minute "Safety Break" at the pool is unnecessary and a waste of time for all involved. No one was able to give a clear reason why the pools empty 1:30pm for 15 mins...only on the weekends. No other day or time. The young high school guards attempted to tell me that it was their break. But...they rotate every 15 minutes, which means they are already getting a 30 minute break every hour for their entire shift! Then they told me it's a chance to "check the pool chemicals". But then all 3 of them proceeded to swipe Instagram on their phones. The aquatics coordinator is clueless. When she finally showed up, she told me she deliberately builds the schedule this way "because it's their only break". None of the other city pools have this waste built into their schedule. Some of the outdoor pools require the children to get out on scheduled intervals, but certainly the adults continue to swim. I walked away still confused and feeling disrespected by the staff. Some notes to consider: park only in the parking lot for the rec center if you can. I parked out in the street once and had a person who I assume to be living nearby, verbally berate me for parking outside the rec center parking lot.
Another note: sometimes the showers can be in poor cleanliness. Several times I have gone to shower and found trash on the floor (including a baby's used diaper once!), the smell of urine, and ripped shower curtains...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreMontclair is our full-service neighborhood recreation center, so we come here every week with our kiddos. Weāre lucky to have such a great facility just a few minutes from our house. The indoor pool has loads of natural light and comes equipped with kid-friendly water features including a 20ft spiral slide and separate lap pool with swim lanes. The gymnasium sports a full-size basketball court with lofted ceiling and a dedicated bleacher section. There are two workout areas with locker rooms, showers, etc. They also offer lots of scheduled classroom activities during the week most of which are free for the kids with their MyDenver card. Montclair Recreation Center is an invaluable (and fun!) resource for the east Denver community, and weāre so...
