Plagued by technical difficulties and painfully slow bar service. Gave it a chance on two separate visits a few weeks apart and it was somehow worse the second time.
It is a great ambiance and the concept is so cool, I have played at the one in Chicagoland area (Oakbrook) while on a trip and fell in love with the overall theme and idea. With some aggressive tuning I am sure this could be a good location but they are hurting on the very aspects that would make you want to come in the first place.
First visit was about 3 weeks after they opened and it seemed chaotic, slow bar service, technical difficulties on the course where it wasn't registering swings or the ball landing in the hole. Before play I ordered two shots and 2 canned drinks from the bar and it took about 10 minutes of standing there before we could order and another 15 mins before we got the drinks. The server forgot what i was waiting on multiple times even after i paid and received half my order. The server on the course was very attentive(but the bar was slow), the music was good, the rate of play was brutally bad between technical difficulties and whatever algorithm (if any) for party size. It was bad in the sense it had 3 groups of 5+ in front of us and then a group of 3, then 2, then me and my girlfriend. Each hole took very long only exacerbated by the slowdowns caused by malfunctioning equipment on multiple of the holes. I will say, we got food after and tried a few of the appetizers, quick kitchen service and the food was good.
Second visit we went for the 4th of July and decided to give it another shot on a whim. When we walked in it seemed less packed, more bartenders on staff we thought it would have been smoother... we were wrong. We sat down at the bar before our tee time and decided to get a round of shots and drinks, 15 mins into it we weren't even greeted yet let alone had our order taken. We eventually just walked away without ordering. We figured we will just go play and order from the server. While waiting in queue we could already see there was a group of 5, followed by a 6, followed by a 5 followed by a 2 then us. We ordered a round of drinks while waiting in line to begin from one of the servers and got it while we were on the 2nd hole. As soon as he brought them over we ordered another round expecting a long wait again, which came out to be true. We played two rounds again and both were plagued by the same issues including the balls just ceasing to register swings or scores all together for one of the rounds. Really takes away from the experience overall.
I try to only write positive reviews on here and share positive portions of the experience but this one I would suggest skip all together for now until they can get their stuff together. I wish them the best and would consider returning one day but its an overall bad time and shared frustrations. Compared to the Oakbrook, IL location this one is in rough shape for being new. What could be a nice date-night idea is a gaggle of frustrations and slow downs with a premium...
Read moreI wanted to love Puttshack. Maybe itâs great as a bar with a game attached, but it seems they donât want to be seen as the inverse, and for that reason I canât recommend Puttshack for young families. You will not be welcome here.
Came here 4/30/24 with my partner and our 3 kids. It was meant to celebrate starting and completing my first quarter at my new job and surprise the kids with what I thought would be a fun evening. We scoped out the menu in advance and picked out what we wanted to eat.
Checked in online on the way there. Arrived and went to the front desk to check in and was directed to some tablets. Got checked in there and assigned our course. We walked to Ruby where we arrived at a blank screen. An employee walked up and scanned his badge then stared at me and mumbled something I couldnât hear in the extremely loud venue. When I didnât immediately respond he gave me a âWT*â reaction and gestured at the screen where our name eventually circled around like we were searching for what gate our flight was at at DEN.
We collect our balls and make it through the first hole fine. At hole 2 one of our balls disconnected from the system. I had no idea what was going on and while trying to set the ball in different places to fix it an employee offered to reset the course or manually add the points to our kidâs score. I picked the latter to be quick. The next hole another one disconnected, but now the employee was nowhere to be found so we skipped it because the very drunk guy who had just caught up to us was getting quickly visibly angered from waiting for a few minutes while a ball was still in play (as far as the system was concerned) and I looked for the employee, so we just skipped the hole to appease the drunk angry guy. We had many more balls lose connection and because the employee who could reset the course wasnât around, weâd just skip every hole that had an issue to avoid incurring the drunk guyâs anger. This is all during âkid friendlyâ hours, mind you.
It was obscenely loud in this venue to a point that my daughter said her ears were ringing while we were in there.
I got nailed by some partyâs ball when they Tiger Woodsâd it, but whatever, I was more concerned with how quick the guy behind us was getting visibly agitated towards us and our kids while trying to rush them through the course.
There were empty beer glasses left all over the course.
Adding everything up- very rude staff, no service, dirty venue, very loud venue, customers whoâve had too much to drink, and a RFID IoT system that really struggled, we couldnât get out of there fast enough. Forget dinner.
We coached the kids on how to complete the final hole and didnât bother sticking around for the final âscoreâ. We were all winners as soon as we left Puttshack.
Edit: Ah, looks like Casey Sailor got the same âstarter guyâ we did! He also didnât have much to say to us other than the mumbling and rude gestures. He couldnât get rid of us...
Read moreWas decent to say the least. Was a little disappointed as the photos on the website do not at all indicate what you will experience at this location. It's almost misleading. You would have a better idea by scrolling through the photos on the Google listing for the Denver location.
I was a little disappointed in the fact that we were unable to select the course we wanted to play and to also find out that your fee to play is for a very short and compact 9 holes from 1 of 4 playing areas. It is poorly designed so people from various parties are constantly walking on or around holes for whatever reason. There were drink glasses at all the holes just hanging out and really needed attention. I truly don't even understand how that could even happen since the holes seem to go so fast. We hardly had to wait to play each hole but I can see how this could become seriously overcrowded with many people participating.
I did not notice any signage to direct me to the areas where our party was golfing for our tee time. The registration was also kind of figure out where to go yourself as nobody was available at what appeared to be a greeters desk.
One other issue was the attitude of the staff member tending to the entrance of the area. They came off as quite rude and uninforming of why we were just standing at the kiosk without being addressed. When I started pressing on the screen to try to register our party and he just came over and basically swiped me out of the way. Maybe if he wasn't busy dancing promiscuously on the holes he would have been able to assist your customers a little better.
I can't speak on the food since we decided not to eat there. The kitchen area did appear clean from what I could see.
The bar did seem to have a quite large selection and was aesthetically pleasing to look at.
If I were to go back it would definitely have to be a day trip where our party is able to play all the holes, indulge in food and drink, and make time for all of this as well. I would definitely consider coming back but really hope that I have a much better experience next time.
The most upsetting part of this is that there seems to be no transparency on the website on what your purchase grants you and that the photos were not of the location we visited. Seeing the set up and how excited I was to visit this unique place was the primary reason I invited myself and 4 others. So until that gets updated or I have a better experience here this rating will...
